I know myself to be an excessively insensitive male and thus an outsider looking in on your two posts concerning fashion. I would also be the last one competent to make any judgment as to whether you are overly sensitive or not.

Curious, I have looked at several other images of Malia. There is clearly a pattern in this sense. For serious occasions Malia prefers to wear her hair “down,” as this is sometimes euphemistically referred to in accompanying text. I assume, given her age, that her mom has some input. It does not appear to me that the image makers have skewed this pattern in any way.

I do not pretend to know what this means. I do know hair is important, and therefore, I assume it means something.
I understand your point here, (as although I am white, I have curly hair issues) and the convention is to straighten hair for any serious event and that it is more acceptable to have straight hair somehow. I love your hair in your picture and the girl's hair casually and feel bad they have to straighten it to conform to some socially acceptable model of beauty. I wear my own curly even to business events now although I went through periods of straightening. I do realize the difference in what your saying is apart from my own experiences, as I did not pick it up, thank you for some insight here.
