I'm nobody important and there's nothing uniquely interesting about me. My blog is intended as planting a free market, conservative flag on Salon Island. I want to be a bit provocative and will attempt to present a counter-counter-culture view. The blog name is based on the idea that the 1960's should not be viewed as only a time when the young pushed change against conservative norms. The 60's were as much represented by law and order shows such as Hawaii Five O. Conservative waves continued through the 80's and into this day. Salon tends to represent the desire to overcome the conservative waves. I will playfully join the debate here to see whether I hit the beach or hit the rocks.

The Unraveling of PelosiCare

Rate: 2 Flag

Some of the threads are coming loose on the sweater that is PelosiCare.  Democrats have leaked to the AP that the actual cost is more likely to be $1.2 trillion, not the $894 billion that Pelosi claims.

These days, $300 billion doesn't always sound like a lot of money.  Look at it this way.  It's 25% more than Pelosi estimates.  This is before anyone even understands it.

It gets worse.  Given that government programs always cost more than estimated and this all assumes that there will be $500 billion in Medicare cuts, let your imagination flow.  This is $2 trillion... easy.

But, here's another thread to pull.

John Boehner, in the Republican radio address this past weekend, highlights that the 1,900 page Pelosi bill is 600 pages longer than the HillaryCare bill.  It appears to be true.  I found another source that had HillaryCare clocking in at 1,300.  So, PelosiCare is ~45% more convoluted.

Two threads not enough?

There is a 2.5% income tax on the middle class and above if you don't buy health insurance.  Remember, this is not a tax on something you choose to do like own property or buy gasoline.  It is a tax on something you don't do.  Will this make sense to the average person?  Probably not.

And, the heavier tax increase on people with incomes over $500,000 is not indexed.  So, as soon as the Obama/Bernanke inflation kicks into high gear, that tax base will grow and grow even though your buying power has shrunk and shrunk.  Sure, Congress can fix this now or fix it later but that just shows that Congress will conspire with taxpayers to avoid the tax, thereby increasing the deficit.  Don't believe me?  Look at the last 50 years of US fiscal history.

Oh Look, Another Thread to Pull

Some number of people are going to connect the dots:

  • Government wants to run healthcare.
  • H1N1 vaccine is late and will be rationed.
  • Government run healthcare = incompetence & rationing.

But, Nancy is going to try to make it to next week before her sweater unravels and she is exposed.  Perish the thought!

When these threads stop unraveling, we will all know what we have known all along. The Emperor has no clothes. Rated
And lets not forget our beloved congresspeople will NOT be forced to get any of this care they want us to take - they have their own separate - but equal? - healthcare system.

I thought we didn't do that in America? Where is the outcry?
Maybe they just used a bigger font??
Roger, that is one theory. What if they used a smaller font? ...shudder...
