I'm nobody important and there's nothing uniquely interesting about me. My blog is intended as planting a free market, conservative flag on Salon Island. I want to be a bit provocative and will attempt to present a counter-counter-culture view. The blog name is based on the idea that the 1960's should not be viewed as only a time when the young pushed change against conservative norms. The 60's were as much represented by law and order shows such as Hawaii Five O. Conservative waves continued through the 80's and into this day. Salon tends to represent the desire to overcome the conservative waves. I will playfully join the debate here to see whether I hit the beach or hit the rocks.

Tea Party Nov 2: Black Minister Challenges Whites (video)

Rate: 1 Flag

Houston had another Tea Party on November 2, the day before this week’s election.  It was a Monday night and more than 10,000 people came out.  That’s a lot of people for a political rally in an off-year election with absolutely nothing major on the ballot in Texas.

Now, you may say, “I don’t believe there were 10,000 people there.”  Well, the Tea Party organizers are getting smarter.  They held this rally at the Sam Houston Race Park and counted heads using the turnstiles.  It’s described in this article at the Houston Chronicle.  For those less enthused about reading, here is a TV report.

In the TV piece, you see a sound-bite from Apostle Claver T. Kamau-Amani criticizing liberalism for harming the inner city poor.  He is a local minister who heads an organization called RagingElephants.org that is dedicated to “leading America’s 2nd Emancipation” and advancing “the cause of conservatism-libertarianism by growing the ranks of conservative voters through RACIAL DIVERSITY.”

Here is video of the speech Apostle Claver gave at the Tea Party.  It should make your head spin because what we have here is a black man with revolutionary zeal challenging the liberal establishment with the resistance philosophies of Gandhi, MLK, and Mandela.

At about the 6:55 mark, he defends the mostly white crowd from charges of racism and asserts to them that Blacks, Latinos, and Asians in fact believe in liberty like this crowd.  He challenges the crowd to reach out to them and say, “You belong with us.”  He accuses leading Democrats like Pelosi, Reid, and Rangel of being the real racists by seeking to divide people and using liberal policies to keep minorities poor and dependent.

This is the kind of stuff that is fun because it takes the normal boundaries that the MSM peddles as conventional wisdom and twists them so that everyone is challenged.

Word.  Cue music...

A fine flaming example of an ideological buffoon embracing the Constitution, and then denouncing what it represents.
Lionizing the Founders, and then feeding them to the lions.
This clown doesn't know the first thing about either subject, and anyone who believes that what he's saying somehow represents a valid interpretation of Constitutional and Foundational reality is also a clown.

I think You Tube has a Bozo clip that runs around 3 minutes. Same basic thrust, but less taxing on the attention span.
Paul, if you ever learn to stop all the name-calling, it might be interesting to see if there is any content left in your many comments on my posts.
McG,
You never respond anyway, so I don't bother going too deeply into what I say. I can back up calling this unhinged fool a clown, and that he is doing exactly what I'm saying.
I don't do "many comments on your posts" for that reason. I tried asking a question or two, but you ignore. If this circus act ideologue "challenges" your thinking, it's better if you don't respond with a defense of his screed...any attempt to do so would be clumsy and grasping.
However, you could have responded by addressing why you think this guy's act has substance, but prefer to avoid that by carping about my "frequent" comments. Let us note for the record that my comment has substance (I plainly state this guy has zero grasp of the subject) and your response doesn't.

Look on the bright side. I represent 100% of the comments on this post.
Paul, what's challenging is that this guy is confroting these mostly white audiences with their own beliefs on freedom... and that those belief should require them to each out to very diverse communities. He actually holds training sessions to help local conservatives to reach out to the black community.

I don't know enough about him to confirm your theory that he knows "zero" but he certainly is trying something different and is very public in the Houston Tea Party movement.

He seems less of clown than Al Sharpton.
