Raptor Rapture

Rate: 10 Flag

        shrieking and cawing

 tw0 frosty capped eagles glide

      over well-flanked field

          perch in snow-laden

  white pines, icy eyes peaceful,

              survey survival

            a third joins later -

            slices into canopy

    for rest; pine branch breaks,

   drops through storm, as claws

push off for next fish at creek

         view from Native eyes

         fourth inky young bird,

   angled against storm, floats o'er

            home of inner work

I could picture those magnificent birds diving down, snatching a fish with their mighty claws and taking it to a nest, to feed the babies. Such a beautiful sight, such a beautiful poem!
You paint such exquisite pictures with your poetry. I see it all, just as you have described. The wildness and majesty are all there. R
The threading here is magnificent; beautifully done. R
You love birds the way I do...
Very beautiful - images and all! My deceased uncle's favorite bird was the eagle. I think he'd like this.
You have such a flowing way and stunning imagery that lingers!

Each a gem. I love the last line of the third: the monosyllables slowing the read, as though we watch in slow motion. Also liked "frosty capped" a lot!
Beautiful imagery here
I enjoyed the lyrical flow of your words
Thank you

I've read this many times before not knowing how to comment that would do it justice. To create such a dynamic poem from haiku verses is quite a skill, Michelle. Each verse vividly describes the action, and the birds in their setting. I love the "icy eyes", "inky bird", "snow laden branches". You create lovely imagery here.
