But It's Different, This Time

Rate: 4 Flag
A short photoessay from Hecate:

It's Always Some Little Girl, Looking All Alone, Surrounded By Grownups, With Her Hair Done Up. But It's Different, This Time.

...Today, two little African American girls traipsed off from one of DC's finest hotels to one of DC's finest schools. We routed traffic all around the city in order to make it happen (because George and Laura Bush are jerks.) And, for just a minute, I am proud of us. I am proud of how far we've come in just one lifetime. Go, America. You go, Girl. That was pretty cool.

I learn so much from Hecate every day and she just taught me again. I hadn't realized the significance of this until she pointed it out. Thanks.

You listed a bunch of really good reasons to vote for anyone - maybe that was why you felt you had no other choice?

The next civil rights milestone? I don't know - the right to sexual identity will be a big one, though.
Tears are streaming down my face. I remember the injustices and the fire hoses and the feds and the scared littled girls. It is important to remember these pictures and these times. Thank you for posting this.
I have two daughters of my own. I know exactly how you feel.
imho, Obama was elected because many people were afraid of McCain/Palin, but mostly because people finally could at least try to judge someone "by the content of their character". I doubt if we'll ever be post-racial, but now I can at least hope.
