Max now fits in perfectly with the accident-prone critters at Che' Mer, since he damaged himself by running into the 1930s Studebaker Rockne we have awaiting restoration in the back yard. Poor Max!
It's not nearly as bad as it looks, though--no cut, just a bad scrape. The DH chastised him: "It's getting cold out, and you need all the fur you can get--don't go scraping any more of it off!"
And here's the big, bad car that hurt him:
Max is also now listed with a local rescue agency, Animal Rescue & Care Fund. They have him listed on two national adoption sites: Adopt-a-Pet, and PetFinder. We are really hoping he'll find a home soon. He's such a good, sweet, dog, he deserves a family that will love him forever!
In the meantime, here he is having the time of his life playing with Abby.

they're both sweethearts
Wish you could keep him as well. thanks for the sweet post.
Odette, you have no idea. It's going to kill me when I have to give Max up, he's such a honey.
Umbrella, Abby has a history of this. I have pictures of her as a baby, with her and Collin chewing on the same stick.
Lisa, you said it. I haven't been able to get good video of them licking each others' muzzles yet, but they do it non-stop. Abby's really happy to have someone to wrestle with, since the Old Man really isn't up to it anymore.
Thumbed - hope Max's owie heals quickly.
Susan, OMG, if I detailed the vet bills we've had in the past 18 months...We have had at least $4k spent on various emergencies in that time, and if we add in regular vet/shot visits....yeesh! Good thing they're so lovable.
Mary--I'm sure we could get him to CO, he'd make a wonderful puppie for you.... :)
Lisa, a few reasons: 1. He thinks the cats are squeakie toys, I don't think he's got a mean bone in his body but he almost flattened one of my cats the other day just by being his normal playful self. 2. The DH doesn't like Pits. Even though he likes Max personally, he doesn't trust any Pits, including Max. 3. We already have two 60 lb dogs in a 1400 sq ft house. Three is just one too many, it's like a three ring circus around here, trying to get all of them in and out and keep Max away from the cats. 4. Collin is elderly and probably won't make it through the end of the school year; Collin is the DH's dog; the DH will want to get his own dog after Collin dies, and he wants another herder; if we keep Max, that won't happen, because of the whole 3 ring circus thing. I'd work on lobbying him, BUT I have 3 very sweet cats that it's my job to keep safe. :(
Cherie, we have about 75% of our acre fenced, and about 75% of THAT is back yard/pasture. They can run, and run, and run. All three of them love to run, and it's a joy to watch them kite around the pasture at full speed. :)
