Red and White

Winter came to visit

temperatures dipped

three days of snow

Early morning walk

through the woods

snow crunched

Breath in puffs

of white

skin tingles

Female cardinal frozen

in the wooded path

still and perfect

Death around me

I can’t seem

escape it

I push forward

with sorrow

in my chest

I doubled back

pick her up

carry her home

I bury her

in the garden

proper and fitting place

She will rest

by the roses

both are blood red

Will her mate

miss her

will he grieve

As I grieve

my loved ones

buried in frozen earth

circleoflife

Facing it all full on, not missing the depth of sorrow and loss, you have captured the essence of winter and I hope spring time hurries up but I know you can't rush it. Just wait. Thank you for this beautiful poem.
Thank you...this was beautiful Mary...

I love this. I love wild creatures. I hate to see them suffer.
Death...birth...both the start of something...
...be in Love, not fear...

The coldness this is winter - what a great symbol for a frozen soul and death. But no matter how cold the winter, spring will eventually come...
