My Working Space

To me the studio is more than a physical place and even more than a mental space; it is a necessity of being.

It’s an omnipresent thing; it allows me to work consciously, semi-consciously, and in unconscious ways and a space to remove myself from the bump andRead full post »

Black Hole

Traveling the corridor of life

your bright light

hides your sorrows

You’re a fragile rose

without thorns

to protect yourself

The world revolves

but your timing

is always slightly off

This time around the journeyRead full post »

Somber evening light

graces quiet water

tranquil feeling descends

I often think that the night is more alive and more richly coloured than the day.

Out alone

to watch the sunrise

days spent in silence

Waves roll in

depositing white foam

cycle repeated

Persistent breeze

a mournful sound

but strangely comforting

Brilliant blue skies

In my third year

I see how it’s changed

spam behind us

no new members

ahead of us

clouds pass over us

hollow spaces

of those deleted

or gone by choice

not wholly sure

why I stayRead full post »

Summer Snapshot 1

A cool breeze

rushes past

forming white caps

This golden light

is deceiving

a jacket is required

Standing here

taking in the coolness

appreciating the tranquilly

In the distance white sails billow

Stained glass
illustrates the sacredness
of this place

A stainless steel blade
a quick flash
it’s done

The slashes of red
an obscene canvas
of pain and madness

The soft light
gives this space
its cathedral-like feel

Pale white skin
marred by your hand
mutilated and raw

In contrast your face

Endless Rain

 A heavy oppressive sky

a monochromatic landscape

an overwhelming sense aloneness

Life is like a rainbow.

You need both the sun and the rain to make its colours appear.

Internal and External Storms

Startled by the sudden rain

the dog presses against my leg

as the sky darkens

and unburdens its self

At the end of the meadow

trees sag under the weight of water

the horizon is a violent green

Elegy in Black

Storm clouds move in

 consuming the light

shadows hang thick

like an ill fitting black suit

putting on this suit

now one’s shadow is gone

with each step

night grows darker

wearing the black suit

and the black nightRead full post »

Observing aloneness

faces look frozen in place

words in short supply

eye contact avoided

Moment in June

Delicate spring sun

reflected in every dewdrop

warmth seems to lingers

Clad in Isolation

Downtown Toronto

The city vibrates with motion

streets carry steady flows

steel and glass towers

stand erect like narrow fingers

reaching upward toward the sky

sun seldom touches the sidewalks

a lonely dove perched high above

its song consumed by noise

Piece by Piece

I dislike these dreams

the ones filled

with chaos

moments from the past

that cannot be changed

This one I strain to listen

but the sounds all blend together

so I watch the clock and time slips away

Under a blue summer-like sky

sun warms an expanse of sand

breeze snaps colourful umbrellas

Spring 17

Spring finally begins

warmth and growth slow in coming

but it’s arrived

Oh yes spring has come

birds sing with gusto

tender new growth all around

The garden is alive

with colour and new blooms

Rainy Evening

   I sit and listen

as rain smacks

tender new leaves

bend to the weight

of rainfall

deeper into the garden

looks tired and wilted

the sky looks dreary

Walking with Stones

Each evening

I walk along this shore

stepping on these

smooth flat rocks

to the sound of lapping water

tonight the breeze

stirs my hair

as I bend down

to select a smooth stone

picking the right one
