I don’t know why I just keep hanging onto this dead horse.  The life is gone.  I’m telling you, the spirit has left.  We are a joke that just isn’t funny anymore.

Does Salon understand that the pathetic way that Open Salon runs is a direct reflection upon them?  Of course who’s carrying who here?  We don’t know any more do we?

I spent the entire afternoon waiting for OS to allow me to post a new story, then, the rest of the afternoon was spent trying to get it to add a picture.  The one post I was able to read was another post talking about just how much OS sucks.

Here’s the deal folks, Open Salon sucks and this isn’t some terrible freak accident because of spam.  They can fix this and just won’t.  Let’s all take a deep breath and realize that we just don’t matter.  Sigh…

The first story that I wrote that I tried to post was just a light hearted kind of ditty about being a little scattered and trying to focus on all that is going on in our lives right now.  Well guess what I finally lost focus trying to post the story and decided to write another one.  This is that story.

I’ve been writing and posting to Open Salon for four or five years now and there was a time when this was the ultra-uber cool place to be.  Of course it didn’t last long before the trolls and fuckwits took over and just made life miserable for most of us but there were those of us that kept writing and kept commenting and became friends and comrades.

Now we have a Facebook page called Orphans of Open Salon where we can go and share our heartbreaking stories about the death of Open Salon.

The site has become something similar to watching a picture upload using an old phone modem and of course the spam became more commonplace than the writers.

See I will not accept the excuse that they can’t control the spam.  I’ve been working with computers long enough to know that they are making money somewhere off of the spam, especially on the weekends.

The truth is they are either making money off of it or they just have given up on Open Salon and if that is the case well then just pull the plug people.  Do the humane thing.  There are other quality sites and avenues out there for people who want to network, write and communicate.

The reality that OS used to be a great place to be is the fact that people still stick around and new people still show up even with all of the dumb shit that is going on.  There is this false magical thinking sense of hope that someone will finally get their act together and fix the damn site and start caring again what goes on out here.

At this point I do not have very high hopes for that.  I have been around projects that started out as brilliant ideas that crashed into the wall and a lot of people ended up injured and worse.  OS is a car crash that just never stops happening anymore and we are such addicts that when we have a few good days and some putz is saying, “NEW IMPROVEMENTS” we are ready to believe them.

Yes, yes I know withdrawal is painful but it is also cleansing when it is finally over.

Who am I kidding?  I’m posting this article on Open Salon!  I am talking about how bad the place is and still trying to post to it.

We are doomed.

Denial is such a powerful drug.  Magical thinking can just take over so quickly and we just keep hanging on to that last shred of hope that someone will give a shit, again about what is going on or at least have enough courage to just pull the plug.
