I heard another knock at the door. I wondered if it was going to be another note.
I went to the door, stood for a few seconds and then opened the door as the knock started up again.
“Hello John, we need to go for a walk and get some things straightened out.”
I stood perplexed at the door, “I don’t know who you are.”
The man smiled. There were birds on the ground by his feet and two brown squirrels. I immediately wondered if one of the squirrels was the same one I fed. “Of course you know me. You are just taking your time recovering from the, well the fall. Let’s walk and it will all become clear.
The one blackbird pecked at my foot and barked a caw at me. “Not a friendly little creature is he?”
The man chuckled, “Actually the he is a she and that is her way of letting you know that she likes you. Get a jacket its cold. Come on, let’s go.”
I opened my coat closet door and got my trusty jacket that my daughter bought for me. Sunflower always bought me jackets and coats. I think she was convinced that I would again end up homeless and needed comfort on cold nights.
Now it may seem unusual that I figured I would go and walk with a complete stranger that was being followed by various species of birds and a couple squirrels but it made perfect sense to me at that very moment. What really could possibly go wrong?
I also had been locked up in the apartment for five days and even if the man was going to torture and molest me it would be a nice change.
We started walking for my neighbor’s yard where I fed the squirrel and the little squirrels ran off and climbed the trees that they always did and the birds also flew up to the leafless trees.
I figured we would start down the little road in the complex when we got to the yard but instead we walked right into the neighbor’s yard. It felt uncomfortable. They had a no trespassing sign on the house.
The place was a group home run by a bunch of women and girls that housed the handicapped, mostly those individuals with who were mentally handicapped. They seemed like good people. They also didn’t seem to notice me and the stranger walking through their yard and the stranger obviously didn’t think twice about walking through their yard.
The stranger spoke, “My name is Joshua, hang on we are about to change dimensions.”
No sooner had Joshua said that and it felt like we walked through an invisible curtain. I felt a tremendous pull from my lower stomach area above the groin but the surroundings didn’t really change. Everything looked the same, but I also knew there was something very different.
We continued to walk and as we continued walking through people’s yards I started to notice a strange vibration in the air. It was as if what I was seeing was really not there. The images were like holograms in front of me. I was seeing the world as it really was and the truth was that the world that I thought was real was not real.
Joshua spoke, “Your friends are dying John. The world is dying. It’s all dying and there is no way to stop it now. It has gone too far.”
Instantaneously we were standing back in front of my apartment. Joshua was standing there again in front of me with birds at his feet pecking and cawing and two squirrels on his shoulders. I was dizzy and completely confused. “What the hell just happened?”
Joshua stuck out his hand, “Hi, my name is Joshua and I’m here to introduce myself and introduce to you a completely new way of looking at the world.”
I felt a real surge of panic and fear, “What the hell is going on here?”
Joshua turned and walked off and all but one of the birds followed him. The remaining crow dropped a small piece of paper at my feet and then took off.
I picked up the paper and it was like a fortune cooking message. It said,
“Peace be with you brother. The moment is close.”
