Bio
Wife and I went through holy hell trying to bring a bio baby into the world, so we tend to see the world through lab-colored-glasses and I’ll frequently post about IVF and things related to baby-making-science. Baseball fanatic, beer connoisseur, completely nuts about my kids and still in love with my wife of 12 years. I’ll probably talk about all of these topics in here, to the delight of the former two and the dismay of the latter…

Four Year Old Wisdom

A recent conversation with my 4-year old.

Kid, “Daddy, I want to see the Pyramidsâ€
Me: “Do you know where they are?â€
Kid: “Far, far away. And it takes a looooong time to get there.â€
Me: “you’re right.â€
Kid: “But don’t worry, Daddy. We’ll take sleeping bags and water. And when… Read full post »

Sperm Test For Men In Drugstores?

Yes, indeedy – a company plans to sell an in-home sperm sample kit available at your local Wallgreens just about any day now.

I have several thoughts about this:

1. They claim it’s convenient and private. I’m sorry, but your wife handing you a box and saying “go produce… Read full post »

Been a while since I checked in here, but I thought I should share perhaps the most ridiculous and ironic turn of events in my life recently.

If you’ve read the book, first of all a big thank you. If you managed to make it to the end of the book,… Read full post »

My Interview at “Creating A Family”

Just a heads up that if you’d like to hear me blather about the book and talk in general about how men handle this whole infertility thing, you can listen to my interview with Dawn Davenport at Creating A Family here. It was great fun, actually. Dawn asked me a few… Read full post »

In I wish I was making this up news, the New York Times ran an article about a sperm donor that is the biological father for potentially more than 150 people.

I have about 150 snarky remarks to make about that, but I’d like to think I could be mature enough… Read full post »

Blah, blah, sperm, blah blah CLOAKING DEVICE, blah, blah babies, blah blah, infertility, blah blah, CLOAKING DEVICE!!!

They even worked Harry Potter into this post. Amazing what you’ll do for SEO.

But seriously, good on you “researchers” — this actually sounds like a pr… Read full post »

You have to watch to the end for the full effect. It makes you appreciate the uncomfortable silence.

Greatest Tattoo Ever?

Ok, among tattoo enthusiasts, that title will be rather incendiary, but if you haven’t seen this already, you simply must watch it. In fact, if you have seen it already — watch it again. If you’re a little squeamish about tattoos, don’t worry – there’s no blood/nak… Read full post »

Sometimes, titles are just hoaxes.

And then sometimes the story is real.

Auction For IVF

I’m donating a signed copy of the book to the “Go Team Witt” effort to fund, or partially fund, an IVF cycle with an online auction. From their website “about us”:

Go Team (IF) started in 2011 when Cameron & Kristin Call found out they would need to raise money qui

Saw this posting on Craigslist, and I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t giving it serious consideration:

Resolve Hope Award Nomination List

So the book got nominated, but it needs to squeak into the top five in order to make what will be the “real” final list for consideration. Once that list is out there, then the supporters of Resolve.org vote to decide the actual winner.

I’m not holding out any hope whatsoever… Read full post »

Embarrassing Your Kids With Style

Been away for a while busy with this thing called a “job”, trying to get the book out in front of people (Ellen, why won’t you return my calls?), wiping more tiny little butts than I care to admit, and doing an ungodly amount of writing about baseball (see twitter feed).… Read full post »

Kimberly Nelson was gracious enough to have me tackle one of the male-related-myths of infertility, namely – “I’m a man, I don’t need to get checked.”  I do a quick confessional before presenting my first chapter of the book, which addresses the issue pretty completely,… Read full post »

Mike Leake Arrested for Shoplifting

You might not know who Mike Leake is, but he’s a promising young pitcher for the Cincinnati Reds. He was arrested today on a shoplifting charge.

Now, I do know who Mike Leake is since I moonlight as a baseball writer/hack. Leake is a very good pitcher, and he really ought… Read full post »

IVF Kids Are Not Normal

According to this article, IVF kids aren’t “normal”.

I’ve got two and a half big problems with this piece.

One, that the “not normalness” of children who are brought into the world with the aid of in-vitro fertilization is entirely tied up in the fact that i… Read full post »
