Last week, we asked for your best solutions in case of emergencies. Our Open Salon heroes came to the rescue. Congratulations to Grace Hwang Lynch for Pasta Puttanesca and the saucy story that came with it. She's this week's winner with alternates Meg Whitlock for Emergency chocolate dump cake and Felisa Rogers for Black bean soup.
Also honorable mentions to: Theresa Rice, Kolika Elle Kirk, Vivian Henoch, Catalyst 40+ and Paul J. O'Rourke.
This week, Considering the bad-weather theme of this past week's challenge, it's surprising that there weren't more entries for soup -- I mean, when you're snowed in and cold, you may also be in a mood for some hearty, warming food.
But of course we don't need to have extreme weather to want that kind of satisfaction, so this week, please share with us your best hot winter soups.
Be sure to tag your posts: SKC hot soup
Please note that by participating, you're giving Salon permission to re-post your entry if it's chosen as a winner, and acknowledging that all words and images in your post are your own, unless explicitly stated. Adaptations of existing recipes are fine, but please let us know where the original comes from. And if you'd like to participate but not have your post considered for republication on Salon, please note it in the post itself. Thanks!

Thanks for the mention.
By sheer coincidence, soup's on the stove tonight. Split pea... probably not my first choice to photograph. Will see.
I was away when Kitchen Challenge was instituted. And I'm dismayed to see a lack of participation, or even knowledge with newer OS members, about Foodie Tuesday. There was a time when it was an exciting day to see the large number of great food posts. But they now get little recognition and are more closed than open to be put make cover. I hope that changes.
If you type in "soup" in the OS search engine, you will come up with dozens of different recipes. I propose that, like all OS posts, you choose the best from these.
I would hope that in the future, recipes that make cover are those chosen from Foodie Tuesday participants without the confinement of ingredients or a "contest."
We should endeavor to keep opensalon.com, just that. Open.
As one of the newcomers, and recent winners, I guess I'm one of the people you're talking about. And it's true, I'm not that keyed into the daily themes. The true story, for one, isn't appealing because most of my posts are true stories.
Anyway, I loved getting to have a story on Salon.com, it gave me a thrill.
But how about, the weekly challenge doesn't have a theme, why must it be a Kitchen Challenge? Or have a month of kitchen, then a month of, say, fashion, or emotions like anger etc. Just a thought.

I hope your time here was good. I noticed you didn't make it over to my posts. That's okay, you did recognize poetry as a front cover material.
That'll probably get you shot, but dave's ego went up!!As did scanner's for putting him on the cover!! :D
Thanks for being open to cool writers ala friends of the House of Tink!!!
You're number two on the List of Best Editors. Don't tell Emily, she was only 3. :D
