I'll bet Dick Armey is spitting mad right now. He was forced to resign from his association with the the global law firm of DLA Piper. Apparently DLA Piper didn't like being associated with Armey's FreedomWorks astroturfing campaign designed to misinform and encourage people to disrupt town hall meetings being held across the Country for the purpose of clarifying issues about health care reform.
For the past two weeks, The Rachel Maddow Show has been doing some real journalism by digging deep into the workings of supposedly grassroots campaigns that are causing the disruptions. It seems that most, if not all of them, are being at least partially funded by corporations that have a vested interest in the outcome of the health care reform debate. If they lose, health insurance companies could stand to lose billions over the coming years, so they've turned to dirty backdoor campaigning to spread lies and half truths to stir up those who are less than fully informed about the health care reform issues.
One of the results of Rachel's in depth probing is that many people have been informed about the real source of these campaigns that use end of life counselling (sold as pulling the plug on granny) to stir up the uninformed public.
Another result of airing the facts, is the negative press that DLA Piper has been getting as a result of The Rachel Maddow Show. It seems to have caused the law firm to part ways with the likes of Dick Armey, even though they've worked together since Armey left Congress six years ago.
Rachel acquired a DLA Piper internal memo stating that DLA Piper is not associated with FreedomWorks and is strongly opposed of any activities to disrupt the town hall meetings and that they encourage civil debates.
Good bye Dick Armey.
Now for the best part. Guess who is going to be on an hour long Special Edition of NBC's Meet The Press this Sunday morning?
If you guessed Dick Armey and Rachel Maddow, please choose a prize from the top shelf on the left. The other two guests are Tom Daschle, (remember him?) and Senator Tom Coburn, M.D. (R-OK).
This is directly from the Meet The Press website.
A Special Edition: As anger reaches a boiling point at town halls across the country, health care reform takes center stage. We'll take an in-depth look at the debate with some leading voices: Fmr. House Majority Leader Rep. Dick Armey (R-TX), now the head of FreedomWorks, an organizer of protesters at town hall meetings; Sen. Tom Coburn, M.D. (R-OK), Member of the Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions; Fmr. Senate Majority Leader Tom Daschle (D-SD), an informal adviser to the White House and author of "Critical: What We Can Do About the Health Care Crisis"; & Rachel Maddow, Host of MSNBC's The Rachel Maddow Show. Plus we'll get perspectives from around the country with Rep. Charlie Rangel (D-NY); Bruce Josten, Executive Vice President of the Chamber of Commerce; and Gov. Bill Ritter (D-CO).
This is must see TV for anyone interested in the health care reform debate and I expect the sparks to fly! Rachel is a world class debater and can hold her own against anyone. I expect Dick Armey will revert to his sexist and condescending ways similar to when he had an on air debate with our own Joan Walsh and couldn't hold his ground (see video below). I doubt that Armey will be able to contain himself with Rachel sitting right across the table from him.
So, set the DVR's and TiVos if you're going to be out. If you can view Meet The Press as it airs on Sunday morning, pop some popcorn and sit back for what I expect to be some of the best political TV of the year.
Here is the video link to last night's segment of The Rachel Maddow Show about Dick Armey, DLA Piper and FreedomWorks. (It really works this time.)

For those who missed the debate on Hardball between Joan Walsh and Dick Armey a few months ago where Armey tells Joan he's glad she could never be his wife, you can enyoy that little exchange in the video below. Armey adds new meaning to the term pompous ass. What a windbag.

Hey Pammy, Just doing my civic duty!
P.S. I'd never seen that Walsh / Armey clip before. What a sexist freakin' pig. What's he going to do for an encore call Maddow a dyke?
Can't wait for the MTP confrontation. Only thing better would be if Joan made a surprise appearance.

Dang, I have such a political/intellectual/cute woman crush on her.
In today's Des Moines Register, the headline is: Grassley voted for end-of-life help in 2003.
Yep, he sure did, as did 42 other Senate Rs. Rachel also pointed that out on last nights show.
Stephen, It is what journalist used to do.
Lea, I know you're are a big Rachel fan. I saw O'Donell take that guy apart. Lawrence was like a rabid dog and wouldn't take no for an answer! Hehehe. Joan would be perfect!
Cartouche, That is hilarious! Gregory will surely have his hands full and should wear a referee's striped jersey.
George, that would be a hell of a tag team! I'm hoping and guessing that Armey will make a total fool of himself which should help to discredit his FreedomWorks campaign.
Wakingupslowly, it's true that many Republicans voted for end of life counseling in a 2003 Medicare bill and we haven't pulled the plug on a single granny yet. The argument just doesn't hold water. That portion of the bill in Congress right now was co-sponsored by a Republican from Georgia. Then they get irate when we call them liars.
UK, You need to get over to your new digs and set that DVR! Of course you can always watch it on the MTP website. I can't wait to see your new home. Good for you!
Scanner, I Know! What a concept! On weekends I turn to FOX news for as long as I can stand it (I have a weak stomach). It's unbelievable what you hear over there.
Robin, Glad I could add a little humor to your day!

Julie, I'm so hoping that Armey goes into his antics. I doubt that he'll be able to restrain himself. This should be fun!
JimmyMac, I agree about hard to watch. I rarely ever miss RM.
JLee, Dick is a Dick. I hope he shows his true colors and discredits himself on national TV. You couldn't have set up a better stroyline if you wanted to. Larry has no problem with going for the throat. It's hard not to like the guy.
Kent, Maybe they should turn it into a cage match! Gregory will have his hands full for sure. He's no Tim Russert.
Monte
Start with a thesis, collect the data, see if the data supports your conclusion, and then state the conclusion.
People get pissy about it, but if the facts say something, well, that says it all.
Thanks for this post - I'll be tuned in tomorrow.
Monte, Seems you are not the only one at odds with NBC's decision to pick Gregory to fill Tim Russert's shoes. I'm not that crazy about him either. I think Lawrence O'Donell would have been a better fit, but I think Lawrence might smack someone if they get out of line. Hehehe.
Tony, I never thought of it that way, but I see your point and totally agree. I actually like the lack of theatrics compared to other cable news shows. She is very talented and getting better all the time.
Hello, Hello! Rachel has made a very big splash in the little time she's had her own show. She's very fresh and genuine and doesn't try to hide her nerdiness. I love her and want to bare her children.
Nanateheay, Pus-bag! Can I use that? I don't see how Armey will be able to contain himself. This will be like watching a lite fuse. Psssssssssst.....POW!
I wrote a post awhile back titled Never "Argue with a Rhodes Scholar" about how she dismantled Pat Buchanan piece by piece. Armey doesn't have a chance. He really should call in sick, but I doubt his ego will allow it.
Miss Sally, Love you too, Babe. Hope you're healing nicely. I'd write about Rachel's show everyday if I could get the videos from MSNBC to embed to OS. I don't know what the glitch is, but you have to wait for them to get to You Tube to work here. Same with Comedy Central. It's my hope that everyone I know watches tomorrow. Yay!

Great piece! Rated.
Dick, wherever you are, don't let the door hit you where the good lord split you. I'm also really glad I get to watch Rachel Maddow school you a bit more.
Thank you for posting this.
Rachel Maddow is the best thing to happen to MSNBC. I watch her daily, but make sure to pay attention, because she does an elegant job of building her reports with well done, substianted material.
Are you listening out there, MSM?
Rated, even though this doesn't need any more ratings!
Rachael was on Meet the Press with Armey this morning. I watched it and all she wanted to do was attack Dick Armey while the moderator, David Gregory wanted to keep the topic on health care.
Tom Coburn took the stand that the government deserved the threats of violence at town hall meetings, Dick Armey denied that he had anything to do with disruptions by opponents, and Rachel gave him the lie with chapter and verse, Charlie Rangel was incoherent, Dick Armey attacked Medicare, Tom Daschle was reasonable and persuasive and stuck to the "system we have sucks" line, Rachel acquitted herself well, but didn't really have much screen time
Gregory clearly saw Rachel as the voice for liberals, and turned to her for the liberal perspective, props to Rachel for pointing out that most liberals would probably rather have a single-payer system
'nuff said, check it out yourself at mtp.msnbc.com
