Last night on Larry King live, Carrie Prejean stormed off the set (then later came back) claiming King was asking inappropriate questions of the former beauty queen turned right wing darling and champion of same sex marriage. Prejean has a new book out 'Still Standing' about how she was unfairly prosecuted for her religious views on marriage. I say bull.
She withdrew a lawsuit against Miss California Pageant officials that claimed unfairly being fired for her religious views after pageant attorneys showed her a tape she sent to an old boyfriend of her pleasuring herself. Pageant officials claimed she was removed for dereliction of duty.
It seems that Prejean wants the free publicity that talk shows provide to promote her book, but she doesn't want to answer the hard questions that make those same talk shows popular. I say she shouldn't have it both ways, but what do I know. Apparently there were some issues that were previously discussed that King wasn't allowed to question. King apparently didn't get the memo.
Though I haven't read the book, I have read some reviews. They run the gamut from support to utter disgust as one might expect. Personally, I don't care about the book. I doubt I'll ever read it. I can't see putting money in the pockets of those I don't agree with. Maybe when the books ends up in the dollar bin at Barnes and Noble in a couple months, I'll reconsider.
I wrote a post last week about the the Prejean video and thanks to all of you, it was my most successful post ever and I thank you all, but there were some people that actually joined OS so they could throw some darts at me. No big deal, but who knew I wielded such power? People can be overly sensitive.
I would like it to be noted that the only thing I have against Prejean is the hypocisy that she continually fails to notice. I don't care what she believes about marriage. Everyone has a right to their opinion. Her religious views don't bother me. She is entitled to her beliefs like anyone else. I could care less about the video. People video themselves all the time and then send them out over the intertubes all the time. To each his own. She said it was the worse mistake of her life and she's sorry she ever did it. I'm good with that. No problem. I don't even care about Perez Hilton (who asked the question that started the controversy) and consider him just another attention whoring glory hound.
My problem with Prejean is that she claims to be all about free speech, freedom of choice and equal rights, but then aides in the making of same sex only commercials that are intended to prevent the same rights she enjoys from being enjoyed by others.
She then rails about being persecuted by the liberal media when others choose to exercise their own freedom of speech. I just don't see how you can be for equal rights and then say that gays and lesbians shouldn't be allowed the same rights as everyone else. Maybe I don't understand the meaning of hypocrisy.
She shows an opportunistic agenda (again, not a problem) to promote herself and her book, then gets pissy and pulls her mike when a well respected and longtime host asks her a question that people want to know about. Maybe I'm making too much of it, but she could have handled that situation a little better. She obviously had someone off screen advising her. Maybe she should look for a new handler.
This is only my opinion, but whether intentional or not, it appears to me that Carrie Prejean is quickly becoming the Anita Bryant of our time. At least that is who she is starting to remind me of. I really hope she doesn't go down that road. I don't want to witness that spectacle again.

Carrie Prejean is just, uhh, stupid. Like you said,
her opinions are hers to own.. the obvious lack of IQ
is just unfortunate though. She doesn't belong in front of any
kind of public audience.
Whether you agree with her opinions or not, why should anyone give a rat's ass what Carrie Prejean does or thinks?
She has accomplished exactly WHAT in her life that would justify anyone giving her thoughts any credence?
I can't blame her for milking the opportunity in front of her, but Larry King needs to fire whoever is scheduling guests for him, and the rest of the world needs to give themselves a kick in the crotch for tuning in.
(end of rant!)

She gets added to the list of distressing and disgusting representatives of the self deluding and self serving right.
Great post, Michael.
Two EP's in a row!
Kathy, I think that showed a little more of her true self rather than the person she tries to put over on the TV.
Wright, Exactly. It's a give and take world. She should be thanking Perez Hilton everyday for asking that question. Without it she would have already disappeared with no book deal and no TV interviews.
Kathy, That is the best answer for any mistake, granted one is willing to admit they made a mistake.
Scanner, I know. She wants the butter, but doesn't want to work the churn.
Rose, That was the purpose of the post. ASny reasonable person would realize that you have to take the good with the bad. Spoiled people don't see things that way.
Jane, Hahahaha! Yeah, If you're gonna leave, then leave. Don't just sit there hem-hawing with you publicist.
Harry, That probably happened off camera. Larry's a randy old goat.
Owly Girl, Thanks you.
Trig, Thanks, Dude. I'm feeling fine. I can get over her IQ. It's the I think I'm so smart part of her attitude that makes me want to puke.
Mark, Great Rant!!!
MAWB, Agreed.
John, The gig is up. Try not to let the cat out. I need the money.
Bill, You are one funny SOB. That comment is priceless!
Femme, I get that and don't blame you at all.
Chuck, That's why I had to give Larry King top billing.
Rainee, Definitely my last post on the subject, unless she becomes one of those subjects that just keeps on giving.
Wouldn't that have been nice.
This young lady is the scizophrenic product of SoCal fundamentalist religion which is perverse (think the concept of "Saddlebacking"), pimped out "scholarship pagaents", an inadequete education (and she's from the city where I live), and a Palin-esque quest for the limelight seemingly oblivious to whether the limelight is from having done something positive or negative just as long as it's the limelight. I'd love to see you apply your satirical side to this comedy of idiocy (Mike, you're from FL so how would Tim Dorsey handle it?)
You're right, Michael, that hypocrisy is the issue.
Zuma, Good question. Beauty doesn't get a free pass in my book. Even I'm not that shallow. (though, I used to be)
L&P, They've both gotten way more than the 15 minutes. I hear Plin has a bus with her book and face plastered all over it for her upcoming book tour and she is planning on visiting Florida. Ugh. I can hardly wait.
Karin, You are so right. I don't mind beauty and brains as a package (like you), but a bubble headed kid with no life experience telling the rest of us all about what we should think just kind of irks me.
Trig, Don't blame me because I'm beautiful. I've used up a years supply of EP's in a week. I'll be back slumming soon enough. Save my spot. Just write something about CP. The editors must hate her too. Who knew?
Patrick, She's the gift that just keeps giving.
Noah, "the silliest Muppet show ever!' Bwahahaha!
Tregibbs, Tha is a quuestion for the ages. If you can figure that out you could be an overnight millionaire.
Develgrrl, I wold bet yoou are so right about the mean girl thing. Spoiled rotten is a prerequisite for that club.
Walter, Maybe you could get her to sign her book for me?! I kid, of course. I didn't even know what I was going to write about this this morning. I usually let these things sit a stew for a day or two and felt I'd go light on her because she is young. It's her only saving grace in my book, but if she keeps it up I might get some help from Bill Beck. I love his opinion of her. I could get some pointers from you, too!
Umby, That part is really disturbing to me. She sure is leaning that way.
Lainey, That is exactly how I felt about it. Like some snotty nose kid throwing a tantrum. How about a little respect for the Icon, Missy?!
But in her defence, she probably thought all talk shows were like Fox and Friends where they were going to ask her about being persecuted by all those evil liberals.
But in her defence, she probably thought all talk shows were like Fox and Friends where they were going to ask her about being persicuted by all those evil liberals.
Others - But Larry WAS totally inappropriate - that's his JOB. Who goes on an interview show and expects only 'appropriate' - you want appropriate, you stay home...
Yeah, congrats Michael, even tho none of us gives a fig about EPs and covers...
G. Gordon Liddy, Tom Tancredo, and now the former Miss California
This behavior is the hallmark of an authoritarian personality.
While we're giving her credit for being a published author I guess we also have to give her credit for being a film star. A real one woman show it was too!
I suppose with that resume I'm going to have to start taking her seriously.
Anyone know where I can get a frontal lobotomy cheap?
I can't say I have no problem with her views. If someone said "The Bible says blacks should be slaves, it says so right there, so no I am not in favor of Obama for president" the world would scream RACISM! Saying gays shouldn't be able to marry is an ism, pure and simple -whether the source of your ism is religious matters not a bit. So I do have a problem w/ her views, but I have NO problem with her expressing them. And I think it is very appropriate that people holding such views that are public figures be asked, repeatedly, to explain and defend those views, and if people fail to vote for them in droves, well then that gives them something to think about, then, doesn't it?
I have zero respect for her views, and now that I've watched her hypocrisy play out on the world stage, I have no respect for her. She could easily engage in a discussion about her views and advance her agenda - but she wants to advance her agenda without a discussion. She wants to be treated as a full rounded person while insisting on being handled like 'just a pretty face' - with no questions penetrating her glossy surface.
Answering a question from Larry King is inappropriate while posing topless and pleasuring herself on video aren't? And brand enhancement isn't un-Christian because the Bible didn't say anything about it?
Holy crap!
So, at least 30% of Larry's programs slip past me.
But, I'll watch the clip now in slim hopes of a wardrobe malfunction (I mean are those suspenders welded to his body or what??!)
look, Angus made a funny!
Me? Hey, marriage is marriage...woman/man, man/man, woman/woman, woman/woman/man....
For the record, while I disagreed with her views, I didn't have any problem with her expressing her opinion on gay marriage and thought the reaction was a little extreme. (Who gives a shit what some conservative pageant girl thinks?) However, after finding out what a nasty, rude human being she is, I really don't care.
Said it before, and I'll say it again -- to hold up a half-naked young woman with bleached hair, false eyelashes, pancake make-up and breast implants as the feminine ideal is a condemnation of our culture. She admires Donald Trump, I despise him as an epitome of the wretched excesses of capitalism.
Speaking of which, if I may be so bold as to make the leap, the cultural defects that make this hypocritical fortune-hunter worthy of note are the same defects that give us banksters on Wall Street and pharisees on C Street.
Is this a great country, or what?
Actually, I'd expect they run the gamut.
gamut –noun
1. the entire scale or range: the gamut of dramatic emotion from grief to joy.
2. Music.
a. the whole series of recognized musical notes.
b. the major scale.
gambit –noun
1. Chess. an opening in which a player seeks to obtain some advantage by sacrificing a pawn or piece.
2. any maneuver by which one seeks to gain an advantage.
3. a remark made to open or redirect a conversation.
I'm sorry, but I think that people who are opposed to gay marriage should be ridiculed. You have so much spare time on your hands that you have to tell someone else how and when and where to love another person?
You wouldn't appreciate a gay man or woman telling you who to marry, so get off your high horse and worship in your church with the door SHUT so the rest of us don't have to hear your opinion (being allowed to express it doesn't mean I want to listen to it.)
Prejean is obviously not very intelligent either, so thanks for the well written post, but lets read it and move on. She doesn't deserve our attention.
Pilgrim, You are a fine gentleman. Thank you.
Patrick G, That was a bit of a stretch.
Skeletnwmn, Good point. She wouldn't join the pageant if she didn't like the limelight.
Nikki, You're right. She didn't have a cause before and this one was laid right in her lap.
COS, Thanks, though it wasn't like I was on vacation. Hehe.
Sheepy, So true. Of course in her mind, she's real from head to toe.
Ocular, I think that was the agreement, but I'm not sure that King knew about it. Very funny that the first caller was gay, but he didn't have a difficult question. It was pretty mild really.
Myriad, Thanks you. She was asked about the court case on other shows and she just said it was off limits. I guess she go tired answering the question. You'd think that someone getting all the free publicity could have been a little kinder to Ol' Larry. She could have easily sidestepped the issue, but she decided to have a hissy instead. Very thinned skin, that one.
Lefty, I so agree with you. They should have a name for that behavior. Something besides sensitive narcissist.
Mark, Trust me, you don't need any medical advice from this side of the boarder.
Buddha, She did show her panties last night.
Zashin, I've seen Stephen Baldwin thumping the Bible around town before. I think he may have done to many drugs out there in La--la land, cuz he's definitely over the edge.
Buddha, I like those short answers. Right to the heart of it.
Sandra, You are so right. I don't have issue with her expressing her view, but with her views themselves. It's funny how she wants to stand up and spout her nonsense, but runs and hides when challenged. That is behavior not becoming a lady. It gets hot in that kitchen sometimes. hehe. I love it when you chime in. Always savvy. The epitome of beauty and brains.
Rick, Like a slow motion train wreck. you know you should turn away, but just can't help it.
Scanner, You're killing me!
Renaissance Lady, I so agree with you. That's why I watch Rachel Maddow.
Sgdog, That seems to be the way she wants to play the game. Bizarre thinking on her part.
Angus, You are a funny guy! I don't watch King either, but I do respect him. That's more than Miss Carrie did.
For Your eyes only, I agree. We should all have the same opportunity to be miserable.
Iamsurly, Her and Palin are of that mold that just doesn't go away. Next week Palin is going to barnstorm the nation with her book tour. Hold on to your seat.
Cassandra, She is entitled to her views. Though she isn't entitled to cramming them down everyone throat and that seems to be the way this is heading.
Tom, "Speaking of which, if I may be so bold as to make the leap, the cultural defects that make this hypocritical fortune-hunter worthy of note are the same defects that give us banksters on Wall Street and pharisees on C Street." True words, Tom. Next she'll be working for 'The Family' and secretly doing their bidding.
But seriously, I think they are both despicable folks. Larry King can make me cringe just as easily.
Nice, awkward video though. I was just squirming in my seat!
Thanks for this post, Michael, and the link; I missed the show.

As a publicity stunt, it worked beautifully. If you're on a blog ranting about this fine, upstanding, American Christian beauty queen, who represents the same ideals of freedom and individuality as say, your average Harley-Davidson rider does, then you're so out of touch with reality if hurts.
Why not write a blog about your own experiences, your own feelings, your own adventures, rather than regurgitate mainstream media events designed to get you hooked on the culture wars of pimps and prostitutes?
Because without Larry King and his happy, money-making horde of celebrity guests, your dull, unimaginative, and unremarkable lives would be tolerable.
Quote: Though I haven't read the book, I have read some reviews.
You probably didn't read anything, as people like you generally tend to get all of their news from the bube tube.
Carrie who?
Its the lack of graciousness that bugs me. That pained, "everybody's picking on me" defensiveness thing that she and Palin do.
I wouldn't agree, but I could imagine a much more gracious, "Look, I'm religiously conservative, and I don't agree that same sex marriage would be a good thing for a society." If she stopped there, then, whatever. Its the additional, "and I know a lot of people are going to hate me for saying this," martyr-wanna-be posture that makes people crazy. Apparently nobody has coached her about how bad it looks, the storming off of King's show, the loaded-for- bear ATTITUDE.
She and Palin, not a gracious bone in their bodies. Don't these people have "handlers?" You'd think beauty contestants would pass through charm school. But obviously, not.
Procopius, I need to check out that show.
Julie, The entitlement of youth. (snickerz)
Ms. Prim, Thank you for that. I knew that wasn't right, but I forgot about it and posted it anyway. Much appreciated.
BOKO, Maher will appreciate that!
JK, Yep.
Knots, I was trying to give her a bit of wiggle room because she is young and may find later in life that she could be wrong. Stranger things have happened.
O'Really, I'm done with it now. ;-)
Thanks, Jess!
Beth I'm gettin' all controversial and stuff. Stirrin' that pot. King doesn't bother me because I never watch him, but I felt uncomfortable watching this, too.
Nom, Thanks for stopping by. You are entitled to your opinion. This one is mine. I've been riding Harleys for thirty years and don't know many that think like Prejean. If you'd like to discuss any matter without feeling the need to insult and judge me, my ears are yours.
This is my blog so I write what I want. That's the way it works.
Shiral, I wish I was that smart. I'll try harder.
Sirenita, Maybe another year in charm school is in order. hehe. I'm trying to be kind on her because of her youth. She has plenty of time to get that ugly out of her soul, but she'll have to want it. Don't know if that will happen or not.
I still HATE the idea of a sex tape being released on anyone unwillingly. I remember a girl across the hall from me in college weeping hysterically about a boy taping her and showing people. She hadn't known, but still. (and she was a conservative and would have been against gay marriage, so I guess it means she deserves whatever people do to her, according to most on this site) I would want to kill myself.
:)
Exactly. Why people, be they of the political left or the right, attach any significance to what this woman believes is a mystery to me.
And speaking of opposition to gay marriage, when the American people have had a chance to vote on the issue, they have voted against it. I believe at last count gay marriage has been defeated 31 times with no wins when the issue has come up for a vote. 0 to 31 is not a very good record, you may have noticed.
So out of the tens of millions of opponents to gay marriage, Ms. Prejean, only a few years beyond being a minor child, is selected for special ridicule, her various sins and offenses and defects displayed and discussed in detail.
Of course, her own actions, like many of those who have achieved premature fame, have not always been the best. In that she is in good company.
Michael wrote: "My problem with Prejean is that she claims to be all about free speech, freedom of choice and equal rights, but then aides in the making of same sex only commercials that are intended to prevent the same rights she enjoys from being enjoyed by others."
In other words, she made commercials advocating the same point of view that is held by a clear majority of Americans, including the president. The horror! The horror!
Fornication is acceptable; homosexuality is not. Wine is part of Christianity (and anyone that says otherwise is of the devil), marijuana is not. Secular arguments to convince non-Christians to protect the unborn are good politics...secular arguments to convince Christians to protect animals are met with the cry "MOVE"! Not harming or not killing the unborn are a Christian duty, whereas not harming or not killing animals are dismissed as "good works."
Paul quotes Jesus as having said to him three times, "My grace is sufficient for thee." (II Corinthians 12:8-9) And the Christians I encounter misinterpret this verse to mean they're free to do whatever they want—ignoring the rest of the New Testament, and (especially) Jesus' and Paul's other teachings.
The late Reverend J.R. Hyland, an evangelical minister, a vegan, and author of God's Covenant with Animals (it's available through PETA), told me they're quoting Paul out of context. Paul, she notes, was very strict with himself:
"But I keep under my body, and bring it into subjection; lest that by any means, when I have preached to others, I myself should be a castaway." (I Corinthians 9:27)
Reverend Hyland says this verse indicates it's possible for one to lose one's salvation.
My friend Ruth Enero, a Catholic peace activist whom I very much respect, also says they're quoting Paul out of context. Paul, she says, had a "thorn" in his side, and asked the Lord what to do about it. The response was simple: "My grace is sufficient for thee." This was a response to a specific problem, not a license to do as one pleases, or why else would Paul himself have given so many other moral instructions?
These Christians MUST be quoting Paul out of context, because otherwise it doesn't make any sense: on the one hand, Paul is warning that drunkards, thieves, homosexuals, etc. will not inherit the kingdom of God, and on the other hand he's saying if you call on Jesus three times. . .you can do whatever you want?!
Well, then: "Abortion. Abortion. Abortion."
My problem really isn't with Christians not being able to follow Jesus or Paul, but with the hypocrisy of going around saying "I believe," and then ignoring the rest of what their religion dictates when it suits them. Why not just be secular, like everyone else? (It would certainly make things easier for those of us in the vegetarian and animal rights movements.)
It’s my contention we Americans really live in a secular society; one in which people just pay lip service to religious ideals.
I strongly suspect that the flouncing was as phony as the Balloon Boy incident. For one thing, the Carrie/Larry interview would ordinarily be as dull as old shoes and would likely sink King's ratings into negative territory. Also, if King was asking "inappropriate" questions, she could have simply repeated ad naseum that she was constricted by a confidentiality agreement, which is probably true. It's simply incredible that even one with the limited intellectual resources of Carrie couldn't handle the King of Softball's questions until the cows come home without breaking a sweat. Carrie's look off-set seemed to me clearly in response to a handler's cue, "OK, this is as good a point for the flounce as any."
I'm fascinated by those who compare Carrie and Sarah. For example,
"She and Sarah Palin - 2 peas on a pod. "
Putting aside the fact that peas appear in not on pods--I guess the author thinks they grow in cans--have these posters ever looked at the resumes of the two side-by-side? Oops, I forgot: in the Obama Era, resumes clearly count for nada.
