Good Morning! Welcome to another edition of the rant.
In no particular order, here are some things I'm thinking today.
President-Elect Obama is in the process of picking his Cabinet. I have one request: Don't raid the Senate. While I do think that John Kerry, Dick Luger, Hillary Clinton and others would be excellent choices for key cabinet posts, President Obama needs the strongest possible congressional delegation in order to get his programs passed. Taking key members out of their seats and replacing them with rookies only serves to water down the newly-gained majority.
The passing of Prop 8 in California, along with same-sex marriage bans in other states is a travesty. If you were thinking the Obama election was a total repudiation of right-wing, evangelical bloviating, think again.
We really underestimated Sarah Palin. Many of us believed she wasn't capable of an intelligent breakfast order, let alone the Vice Presidency. Turns out she is an expert at playing "Open Mouth, Insert Foot".
Sarah, you lost. Everyone knows you were a major contributor to the defeat. It's time to shut up, now.
Larry Summers seems to be on a lot of short lists for Secretary of the Treasury. He's probably the best choice, and the guy Obama wants. The President-Elect should avoid the controversy inherent in this pick. There are others who are equally qualified; and less provoking.
The Steelers lost yesterday. Now, I'm a big fan of Ben Roethlisberger, but I think we have to hang the loss on him. Two interceptions, giving the Colts a short field, leading to touchdowns. Final score: 24-20 Colts.
While we're on football, the Pitt Panthers won big, Penn State lost. It just doesn't get any better!
You know, I hated paying $4 for a gallon of gas. But I worry about a drop in price to $2.24. Americans only do what's right for the environment when it doesn't matter to their wallets. Clear up the credit crunch, keep gas prices down, and Hummer sales will soar agan.
How about Bill Richardson for Secretary of State? Jennifer Grantholm for Treasury (or Commerce)? Richard Clark as National Security Advisor would be interesting.
You read it here first. House is the best show on television.
Leave to us liberals to devote more time, thought and blog space debating the choice of the First Dog over the Economy.
I like Al Franken. I always thought he was one of the funniest contributors to SNL. His radio show was compelling. But, what are his qualifications for the Senate? Yeah, I'd love one more Dem seat, but really, Al Franken?
Rahm Emanuel is, apparently, a real pit bull. And, by putting him in the White House, we save a lot on lipstick.
It's almost a week since the election. No Republican has declared for the 2012 nomination. How long do we really think they are going to wait?
President Bush and President-Elect Obama meet today at the White House. Who's buying lunch?
Does anyone else think it was cool that, on his first big day as President-Elect, Barack Obama started the day with Parent-Teacher conferences? This man truly has his priorities straight.
I have more, but my head hurts and I need to go lay down. We'll talk later.
