Bio
I've done everything from recycling to teaching in a pre-school. Most recently I was for 10 years an acting and theater teacher as well as a pallet builder. I read a lot and I'm an old man who remembers the distant past with somewhat more clarity than this morning's breakfast. I've been blogging for a decade and I don't do "light". If you're looking for recipes, self-promoting displays of items made for sale, titillating stories about how I was a pimp for an afternoon, or the beauties of toasters, you've come to the wrong place. Palin's Extreme Religion and the Media

You wouldn't know it from reading Kirk Johnson and Kim Severson's NYT piece on Sarah Palin's religious background but the Assembly of God is a well-known far-right Xtianist cult that believes in child-beating, murdering homosexuals, and forcible imprisonment of non-believers, among other things.… Read full post »

Dominionists Get 2nd Spot on GOP Ticket

In response to Kerry's Open Call for more information about Palin's urge to ban books from her hometown library, I've been digging up info on Sarah's past.  It ain't pretty. The book-banning stuff is the least of it.

I trust you know who the Dominionists are - ultraconservative, neofascist, fun… Read full post »

At the nominating convention of the party in power, a party whose leader had 8 years - two full terms - in office that they presumably would be celebrating if they thought they had a reason, they've shuttled the Emperor off to one side. He wasn't even allowed to attend in… Read full post »

Palin Pregnancy a Fake?

She hasn't even been the presumptive nominee for 48 hrs and already Sarah Palin is in trouble. Not from the usual sex or corruption scandal we're used to with Republicans but because she may have pretended that her unwed teenaged daughter's baby was her own. (TMiss has a round-up of various… Read full post »

Gimme Some Old-Tyme Community

There's bound to be an upside to every disaster, I suppose, and you might say the bright side of the Bush economic free-fall is the once and final (we hope) death of standard conservative ideals like "every man for himself" and "starve the beast". Seems things work better when we

8 Reasons to Fear the Palin Choice

At corrente, Chicago Dyke makes me look like a piker. I had one reason why Palin was a good pick, she has a list of 7. (via)

2. She’s pretty. Which is great! Finally, an attractive Republican! Should this make a difference to voters? Of course not. Will it? You’d be

McC Picks Anti-Corruption Whistleblower

There's a lot of speculation going around about this surprise pick (just this morning I agreed with Kevin Hayden that it was most likely going to be Bush fave and equal unknown Rob Portman). What does it mean? Why did he do it? From the Female Angle to the Experience

Obama Gave a Great Speech But Can We Believe Any of It?

By all accounts Mr Obama's speech was more or less what we all wanted to hear.

Avedon Carol:

That was pretty much the speech I've been saying he should give, and I believe he made some sales with it. I'm willing to bet that a lot of people saw

Drug $$$: Avastin v Lucentis

Big Pharma has become infamous for its disinterest in affordable drugs. It wants to develop only the high end, expensive drugs it can charge an arm and a leg for, and then complain bitterly about the "abusive medical costs" brought about, no doubt, by excessive govt regulation. They want to tell… Read full post »

I was finishing up a self-imposed vacation this weekend when I made the mistake of reading a paper and found this.

The Justice Department has proposed a new domestic spying measure that would make it easier for state and local police to collect intelligence about Americans, share the
