Petition to The Universe on Mr. Mustard's Behalf

Rate: 41 Flag

This is my Petition to God asking for Mr. Mustards post to please be on the cover of Open Salon!  I got this idea from Cartouche, and of course, Elizabeth Gilbert who wrote, "Eat, Pray, Love."

I hear by let my feelings be known that many of us believe "Suicide's Auditions" by Mr. Mustard should be on the Cover of Open Salon and also make the Editor's Pick list!!  I know you are busy, God, and there are many more important things going on in this Universe that you must tend to, but I implore you to step in and help the editors to recognize great writing when they see it.  In my most humble request, I beseech you to let them see their way clear and send a little kindness his way, for he is most deserving.  I thank you for your kind attention.

Readers, please sign my Petition to The Universe, e-mail the editors and leave a comment!!!

Thank you, all, in advance!!

And be sure to read Mr. Mustards post, and rate it!!!

My family signed this petition... my mother, my father... my 3 sisters. Shakespeare just signed this petition. Michael J. Fox just signed this petition. Anybody can sign this petition! Martin Scorcese just signed this petition (which you wouldn't expect, but it sure was nice of him). Joanne Woodward and Paul Newman just signed this petition!

Please sign it also!!
Consider me your first petition signer! YES!
He should be on the cover and often. But then there are many, including you who should be as well. There are MANY who ARE on the cover who shouldn't be. But then, I'm not the Editor, nor would I want to be on here if the same course is continued.
Mustard is extremely talented and that piece in particular is brilliant.

Signed...and thumbed...
yes, yes, it is obvious
okay, im' an idiot. where is the petition? or is just putting my name here the same thing?
okay, if thsi is the petition, im' signing it. and putting a word in myself to god/gd/universe. love love love

and i'm with blue. there are many others who deserve some good attention, at least once in a while, especially with the editors give themselves EPs.
If I were an Editor, I'd give myself the cover too!!

owmmmmmmmmming for Mr. Mustard!!!
You realize that editors by nature think they're G-d, right?

But, in for a penny, in for a pound. You've got my signature. Let's go, folks!
Signed two or three times. That is one astounding piece of work by Mr Mustard!
I will sign your petition, but I would like to point out that I don't check the cover hardly at all anymore. I read my favorites and my favorites' favorites and check out people who leave comments on my posts and people who PM me. A lot of times when I scan the cover a voice in my head says: "ignore that, don't read that, I've read that, don't have time..." That kind of thing. It's just not the be-all and end-all.
latethink, I do agree with you. I know Mr. Mustard does not write to get a "cover" or an EP, but this time I feel the writing is so outstanding that, frankly, I am at a loss as to why it hasn't made the cover. This is the kind of writing I would give almost anything to be able to do.

Jack Nicholson just signed this petition!!!
I've just emailed this petition out to a bunch of people. If everyone would keep "bumping" Mr. Mustard's post as well as this petition and occasionally my post "If they won't, I will", maybe we can reverse clog the feed with the WILL OF THE PEOPLE!
Thanks all.
Your comments and support validates my work.
Lois... I'll sign 'cause God told you I could. : )
There's no justice. Mr. Mustard's post is great! Sign me up.
Oh, honey, you should always sign your own petition!! It's like a presidential candidate voting for themselves, of course they would!

Sylvia Plath just signed this petition!!! (thank you, Sylvia!!)
Signed, thumbed, and certified.
I haven't read Mr. Mustard's post yet. I'll be back.
David Foster Wallace's family has signed the petition too!
Of course I'll sign... I've reddit, duggit and facebooked it.

However, as much I think this piece deserves recognition, I want to go on record as saying: Mr. Mustard, I hope you know the writing itself needs no help from us. It stands on its own merit.

Wonderful writing is wonderful writing.
Also, it appears as though for all our intentions, reddit and digg are moving rather slowly.

I don't fully understand either site. Is it listed in the right category/categories?
If our favorite writers do not make the cover or an EP, then perhaps we need a "Reader's Choice" award!!

Freakin' John Lennon just signed this petition!! (all you need is love, love, love)
Agreed! If our faves aren't on the front page how can it be Open?
I'm in...as for Digg and Reddit, BBE seems to be the expert on getting those to the top, not sure how he does it except with lots of time and well placed friends!
Bill Clinton just called me about signing the petition. I told him I'd include his name as well as mine...
I'll sign, of course. But I have to say, as latethink does, I hardly go there any more. My favorites and their favorites provide me with the sustenance I crave at OS. I understand timely front page choices, overnight comments about idotatrous TV programs and such, jokey stuff. But past that, there doesn't appear to be any guiding editorial direction at work. Excellent writing certainly doesn't appear to be a criterion. Bad writing is far more common. Write me for examples if you can't provide your own. More than providing worthies like Mr. Mustard with well-deserved support, I could stand an explanation of what the editors are trying to achieve on the cover.
Jeremiah Horrigan, I understand also that they need to keep things under control regarding what is selected for the cover. I applaud anyone who makes it and I applaud the editors for the choices the make. I certainly would not want to be in their shoes.... unless of course, there is money involved, then yes!! I would like to be in their shoes!

I have to say that between all the ratings and comments Mr. Mustard received, Cartouches's post and the excellent response to my petition.... I feel he knows we all thoroughly enjoyed and appreciated his post. Kudos to Mr. Mustard for inspiring us into action!!! And, this may lead to a change. For posts that do not make the cover, but are totally reader worthy... maybe we can have OS membership awards of some type. Of course, we do not want it to become a popularity contest. No hurt feelings!

Mr. Mustard, your piece was exquisite!
Mr. Mustard is getting the OS equivalent of the Colbert bump!
Who is Mr. Mustard???? I kid, I kid! Haven't read it yet, but I'll be on it like ugly on a baboon's butt if you just tell me where to sign.
Done. I may have been rendered speechless by his writing, but I rated, responded to Cartouche's call and now yours. Excellent writing is not something to be taken for granted.

Michael Rodgers just signed the petition and he doesn't even know it!!

Ralph Nader just signed too!! (thanks, Ralph!)
BaRockMyWorld just signed this petition!! (Barack Obama to you!)

Hey, if the President can sign this petition, anyone can sign!!
Maybe you should post this on Facebook!!!!
You sure give good petition!
I agree it's great writing and deserves attention, I'm just saying that it was a PM from you and Cartouche that got me over there.
He's got my vote!
Thanks for your reply MAWB,
signed,sealed,and delivered.
Does this count as a "signature"?

A head's up that there's a lot of brilliance being tossed about on OS today. (I suspect Mercury no longer being in retrograde.) But I also really liked this Gwool's post:

BUMP and a very kind, fine offering from aprhabehn (what does that mean, btw?). Not necessary, but it's the SPIRIT of giving that counts. This kind of generosity cannot be taught or learned (obviously). Methinks it comes naturally. Good on you.
Signed. His post was exquisite and haunting.
Bumping and grinding.
Another bump. Just because I feel like it.
I'll go read it right now.
signed to promote aggressive Ep prosecution and not autopilot~
Signed. And my cats, too.
aphrabehn, no no no!! Do not give up your spot!! I figure if anyone has the nerve to write, post, and then open themselves up for comments they deserve a cover! You earned it! Celebrate! (although, that is a very generous offer!)

Beth Mann, I read GWOOL today too, commented and rated! Love it!

Thank you all for stopping by and letting everyone on OS know we truly appreciate great writing when we see it. If it doesn't make the cover or EP, so be it, but the Great OS has spoken!!

Mr. Mustard, you have lifted our hearts with your sad, yet so real, post. Thank you for being here!
Oh, and btw... Apollo just pawed this post!!!
Now Apollo and the Cap'n have both pawed this post!
Apollo's approval truly illuminates my spirit. Thank you for your kindness and true friendship.
Signed, dugg, and reddited. If that's the way to say that.
I have signed, albeit late. Have I missed the deadline?

There is no deadline on great writing! :)
Middleaged,
It seems that 90% of OS cover material is political crap. I stress the word crap - because with the world in the state that it's in and many lives turned upside down, WHO NEEDS MORE SHIT TO READ??? Not me! If it's political I avoid it like the Bubonic Plague! The other favorite for front page placement seems to be TV shows. Who the hell cares? If I wanted to see what was on tv, I'd watch freaking tv! Then there are few regulars of exceptionally long winded posts I suspect are supposed to be funny but the humor escapes me. Hmmmmm with these front page picks, doesn't make OS look too enticing to a newcomer or someone interested in reading something artfully written and meaningful, such as our dear Mr. Mustard's post. It's a crying shame. It truly is.
