Astonishing Number 9
For Hannah's birthday last year I made a list of facts about her age: year eight, eight facts. She didn't understand much of it but thought it was awfully cool that 8 laid on its side was the symbol for infinity. This year, it's 9 facts about Astonishing Number 9.
Beebs at 10 months

Two of our colleagues became ill, one last November (a rare cancer) and the other in January with Guillain Barre. So we decided to throw them a bake sale on eBay, which has turned into a collection of the neatest things, such as an offer to debate the relative who mos… Read full post »
Notes left on the refrigerator, part 2

Update: Just so we're clear -- this was high drama. Think she was playing with Beebs and tapped the side of her face someplace, but everyone was in high dudgeon, & Missy decided to amp up her suffering. Read full post »
Poor Beebs, he lost 2 body parts yesterday. We took turns sleeping next to him last night, and now he's wondering where his constant petting went to.

And I'm wondering what that bit of wayward schmutz is, right there on the floor.
This is not a post about Sarah Palin
See?? Besides, I am soooooo much cuter. I mean, just look at that face.
Flowers from and for Ruth
Our Ruth is the guest bouquet on Bouquet Of The Day. And it's a sad day for her -- she lost her kitty, Smoky.

Family addition #3

Cripes, we're doing it again. Meet family addition number 3 (this was number 2), due home on May 30th. Hannah named him BB, which expands to Bam Bam. Or BB King. Or nothing. He is (cough, cough) the biggest pup in the litter, the first of the lot to give/… Read full post »
All that harassment paid off :)

Who needs a plot? Just get the gold already and you're done. The end.

The monster inside my son
This drawing for Ann Bauer's article was Sarah's (editor) idea, not mine. My idea began life as something to do with Harold and his purple crayon, but it didn't quite come together. Good for Sarah, I thought the drawing turned out very well.

This year I'm starting something new for your birthday. Instead of another letter, your mother, now a bonafide member of wwwdotlistmakersanonymous, has assembled this list below, which is all about you. Various observations made since last year's exercise, with length determined by your age… Read full post »
Year 7
Then the beast started to cry
Hannah has a white binder filled with pages and pages of a book
that she's writing. Last time I peeked it had about 3 or 4
different beginnings, but she insists it's the same book. I'm not
allowed to correct her spelling, syntax, or anything else for that
matter (I don't).
She… Read full post »
Pet Week on Salon
Our friend Jane sent these to me, photos making the rounds in Australia of a little koala who wandered onto someone's back porch looking for some relief.

Update: Jane just sent this link: The koala is a baby, inadvertently abandoned by its heat-stressed moth… Read full post »

(Pie, above, melting on a very hot day. He died 2 days before Hannah's 6th birthday, and we're coming up on another birthday in March, her 8th.)
