 I have to remember this: This above actually looks better here without all the other supporting pieces. I should have stopped at this point (which, however, doesn't fully illustrate the article -- minor nit) or reworked it all for a better marriage of drawn and photographed elements.

Or, maybe it just needs a puff of whipped cream and a maraschino cherry.

I looked at the salon article with the final illustration and saw the additional elements that were added to the final artwork. Clearly, the above illustration does have a bold graphic quality to it which I happen to like, but I do see how you needed additional elements to tie in with the story.
Yes, the other pieces were absolutely necessary :)
