Salon's art director, Bob Watts, died this year of cancer on January 3rd. After he passed away, we discovered he'd kept sketchbooks crammed full of notes, recipes, and drawings, and I was very happy when Lori, Bob's wife, recently sent me a cd of the artwork in those sketchbooks. We're all in need of something else on which to focus this week, and it seems like a great time to publish a few pages from Bob's notebooks.

So today, and over the next 6 days, these posts are for an old friend, who would have wanted to be at his computer, grinding this one out with us.

My dog Pie (above, right) died on March 19, 2007, and I was so touched to discover that Bob memorialized him. The drawing is from a photo of Pie melting on a really hot day.

Pie=MC2 (Magical Canine Squared)...

I just lost my dog of 12 years a few weeks back and it's a devastating blow. My heart goes out to you.

Peace,
Greg
That's so sweet to see Pie in there.
Thanks for posting this glimpse into such a personal sketchbook. "Mauii on the beach" ... what can I say?
