The monster inside my son

This drawing for Ann Bauer's article was Sarah's (editor) idea, not mine. My idea began life as something to do with Harold and his purple crayon, but it didn't quite come together. Good for Sarah, I thought the drawing turned out very well.

The monster inside my son
For years I thought of his autism as beautiful and mysterious. But when he turned unspeakably violent, I had to question everything I knew

Powerful, compelling story. Does this mean that you are really Ann Bauer? I'm so confused. But I'm really, really glad to have read the essay. I worked with mentally ill young adults for awhile (I know - totally different category). They often broke my heart with the sudden changes, and often broke their own hearts with them too. The young man, whether he realizes it or not, is lucky to have family that cares. Yet so very hard on the family. I can only try to imagine, but this essay makes the imagining possible. Rated for courage to say what needs to be said.
Whoops, sorry! I did the illustration, and am not Ann Bauer.
