Bio
Miguela Holt y Roybal is my maiden name en Espanol. I am a retired schoolteacher and aspiring author looking for crumbs of beauty among the ruins. My novel has been a work in progress for longer than I care to admit. It is a postmodern pastiche of magical realism and about a young woman from New Mexico who goes to work in Washington, DC during the 1980s. She has been a longtime witness to the secret rituals of the Penitente culture in her home state and learns about herself and redemption as she sallies forth on her quest for novelty and adventure. I claim fair useage of images found on the internet that illustrate some of my posts. All contents copyrighted by the author unless otherwise noted. All rights reserved.

My main character trait:  Tenacity

The qualities that I desire in a man: Adoration of me, solvency

The qualities that I desire in a woman: beauty, accomplishment

What I appreciate most about my friends: They appreciate me.

My greatest flaw: I am artifically happy all the time--an annoying Pollyanna even in the morning when I first arise.

My favorite thing to do: Get into my huge claw-foot bathtub billowing with bubbles and read great literature 'til the water gets cold, then add some more hot water.  Lather, rinse, repeat.  Note to self:  Don't do this with your best books.

My dream of happiness: All of my loved ones gathered around the dining room table on Christmas Eve after having come in from the cold singing carols in the neighborhood laughing and eating and imbibing an abundance of favorite foods and drink.

When or where were you happiest? I always enjoy the here and now.

What do you regard as the lowest depth of misery? To be poor, sick, hungry, and cold--the plight of too many on this tragic orb.

What is your greatest fear? Germs, Homelessness.

What is the trait you most deplore in yourself? I expect perfectionism from others and they resent it.

What do you consider your greatest achievement?

On what occasion do you lie? Only when the truth will not work

What do you most dislike about your appearance?  I am losing my hair and have a panza.

Which words or phrases do you most overuse? Awesome, Cool, Gentle ______, who's fussing?  Boys, behave!

What I would like to be:  A beautiful opera singer-- a slightly chubby soprano celebrated and admired the world over for her beauty and talent with white roses.

Where I’d like to live:  Santa Fe, NM in the summer.  Las Cruces, NM in the winter.

My favorite color:  That pale shade of lavender blue just as the sun is setting.

The flower that I like:  A long stemmed white rose with the barest tint of green on the tips each petal.  One is bejeweled with a sparkling twinklebell of dew.

My present state of mind:  Content yet worried about loved ones

My motto: Don't tread on me.

"Solvency:" Great answer!
And a tip of the old Fedora to you, m'lady.
All great answers. I also wish I could play a musical instrument. My brother is a guitar whiz, and I hate it!
Nice to meet you. = - }
The questions intimidate me, but the answers I've read so far today are fascinating. Maybe I've just answered one of the questions: I'm a lazy wimp. That's true sometimes, too, like now.
an annoying Pollyanna

24-7 .. 365 days a week and damn proud of it.:)
HUGGGGGGGGGGGGG
I love what you look for in a man! And dying to "Golden Slumbers" sounds like a great way to go! Thanks so much for doing this Open Call - it's great to get to know you even better!
Only the really brave answer this extended questionnaire and you did a bang up job. Interesting that what you like most in women includes beauty. That gave me a pause and I'm thinking about if that is true in any way for me. As for your hair , PM me. xxoo R
Great reading your answers. By "Battle of the Bulge," I thought, "So love to have a beer with this woman..."

R for making me want to have a beer with you.
You are a nice person and your answers show that.
Brilliant answers.
Santa Fe in the summer..... I miss those days! I was just recommending it to our waiter, after seeing the film. Apparently, he didn't know it was the meccas for gays, waiters, and intellectuals. Maybe you can have a drink for me on Zozobra.
You have said it all! We could be soul sisters you and I!! hahaha!
I love "adoration of me." Well of course; goes without saying. "Don't tread on me."
Great post. I don't think I will post one since ours would be so similar!
I love Tchaikovsky too! I feel like I know you better now. :-)
Yes, solvency indeed! An admirer of Santa Fe, teachers, and Christmas with the family: all work for me!
I wish Robert the best and hope the two of you are endlessly happy.
Wow, 22 years as a teachers is amazing.
Love your answers. You sound like a very interesting person who I look forward to getting to know better.
