Bio
Miguela Holt y Roybal is my maiden name en Espanol. I am a retired schoolteacher and aspiring author looking for crumbs of beauty among the ruins. My novel has been a work in progress for longer than I care to admit. It is a postmodern pastiche of magical realism and about a young woman from New Mexico who goes to work in Washington, DC during the 1980s. She has been a longtime witness to the secret rituals of the Penitente culture in her home state and learns about herself and redemption as she sallies forth on her quest for novelty and adventure. I claim fair useage of images found on the internet that illustrate some of my posts. All contents copyrighted by the author unless otherwise noted. All rights reserved.

Gary Johnson's Responses in Last Night's GOP Debate

Rate: 14 Flag
Take aim but I like him.  He is a badass who climbed Mt. Everest with a broken leg!  He can take on our country's challenges with intelligence and passion.
I have no stake in Johnson's candidacy whatsoever and have not voted in over twenty-five years--will not ever again.

Trust one of 'em...including Johnson...the way you ought to trust a scorpion.
Trust one who looks like a "nice guy" and who is stupid enough to climb Mt. Everest with a broken leg just a bit less!
I'll have to watch this later. Getting ready to sub. Any alternative voice on the Republican side has to be considered a good thing.
Interesting! thanks for this r.
Miguela, you wrote:

He made it.

He took an incredibly stupid chance to satisfy some inner self-craving…and you are right, against tremendous odds, he made it.

If you want to take a chance with a gun-slinger like him doing that kind of thing with the country, that is your right.

All anyone can do is to warn you against such folly.
If he's a Republican he's a wolf in sheep's clothing. A Republican is a Republican is a Republican.
He sounded like the same-old same-old to me (boy those Repubs sure want to cut out education). I thought the applause line about shovel-ready jobs was (yikes, who'd think I'd ever say such a thing) vulgar. The Repubs refuse to cooperate in any way and then make crude insults to the prez (who at least talks jobs - the repubs just talk tax cuts for the rich).

NOW.......if he'd got a question about legalizing pot, he might have given a better impression!
Myriad--The pot question was asked and answered later on in the video.
Don't worry, Gary doesn't have a chance anyway.

Save your worry for those who do have a shot at the nomination. Because even if you don't vote, plenty of others will do so, and one of them will face the president in the general election.

This was a very informative post. Thanks for putting it up.
What Matt said 100 times over..
HUGGGGGGGGGGG
You won't' vote ever again...? Then just shut up and let the adults handle the politics.

Stephen--I will certainly complain about the idiots that people like you vote for. Think your vote counts, sir? I guess you don't know about the Electoral College. Learn how to only post once.
I guess I was OSing or something when J got the pot question. Agree with him (only would go further). He seemed to have got a good positive response.

Don't like the rest of his opinions.
He was gov when I was in New Mexico, and probably is a decent enough guy. Not sure he is right for the presidency, but he and Huntsman are both examples that republicans are not all bible swilling haters. Of course, that could change too.
Miguela:
Even though you have shown that you can give as good as you can get (these comments), this blood sport (politics and political commentary) isn't for everybody. I can hear teeth gnashing from here. Run for the hills!
I enjoyed the comments here...but I agree with UME. Now it also just happens that my father is living in New Mexico now so this will give me something to discuss with him.
Thanks for your comments, dear friends, both positive and negative. I think you know the issue dear to my heart and why I like this guy. He has a lot of courage.
I was given some very good advice about getting involved in political discussions and risking getting squashed like a bug so I just wanted you to know I listened and read the comments and rated.
Tried to watch the debate, but had to grow throw up with first fake question from the fake "small businessman". Was that Joe the Plumber's brother? That said, I can't weigh in on Johnson, but I can weigh in on a citizen who proudly announces they haven't voted in 25 years. Are you unaware that not voting for the lesser of two evils rewards the greater of two evils?
Thanks for posting this, Miguela. :)
Chrissie--You are wise to heed the advice to stay away from politics. I was taught that it was an impolite subject of conversation. The vitriol shown by haters of both extremes makes compromise next to impossible and the ad hominem arguments here are disappointing.

Mr. Cordle--Voting is a right and it is my right to abstain. I will not approve of evil. You may if you like.
