Rate: 3 Flag

Bob Herbert

Bob Herbert has a superb editorial in the New York Times today (12/23/08) defending the efforts of teachers' and auto workers' unions to adapt to the economic crisis.  Check it out at : http://www.nytimes.com/2008/12/23/opinion/23herbert.html?ei=5070 .

Just a heads-up: in your title, you refer to the NTY rather than the NYT. ;)
This is a good article. Thank you for sharing it. I do feel that the worker is often demonized.
How right Herbert is in his assessment that there needs to be a change in attitude. Big 3 autoworkers, of course, are not to be blamed for executive management's monstrous mess. Instead, the heat should stay at the top where it belongs. Unarguably, the Big 3 launched Detroit's middle class but without those jobs, down the tube goes their American Dreams. With so much attention attached to corporations, workers must unite and look out for themselves as best they can but we could certainly use a more visible cheerleader.
