Bio
It is not lightly that I compare my friend, Mikel K Poet to a Bukowski, John Fante or Hunter S. Thompson. He is twisted. He is misunderstood. He is Arturio Bandini running amok through this crazy life! Mostly, he is genius in its purest, most insane form (and I say that in a good way). Not all will "get" him, but that's ok because he doesn't "get" most of us mere mortals either. His observations, stories and poetry are intriguing, thought-provoking and sometimes downright disturbing...gotta love it! --Valerie King ------------------------------------------- This is a must read for everyone who ever thought about saying 'screw the system' and wanted to face reality in the raw, but haven't, or couldn't, find the guts to do it. The Delivery Guy is a poet's journal of events and decisions facing a man trying to dig below the surface of corporate security and acceptable mythological and social hiding places, to see what's what and feel the energy of what 'is' in our era. There are no safety nets to catch Mikel in his walk through the primate insanity of the human experience in a crowded city of frightened Homo Sapiens. Mikel K is the new Charles Bukowski! --Lou Majors --------------------------------------------- "I found the book, "The Delivery Guy," by Mikel K to be a refreshing and sometimes uncomfortably honest look into the life of a modern writer struggling to come to terms with a pre-fabricated and often superficial, turn of the century, American society. The battle is dynamic and comes to an uplifting spiritually evolved conclusion. I found it a fascinating read!!!" --James Lewis --------------------------------------------- Mikel K is a poet, a journalist, and a memoirist, among many, many other Gemini things. You can buy his stunning, and weirdly funny memoir, "The Delivery Guy," on Lulu and at Amazon Kindle. --------------------------------------------- http://www.lulu.com/spotlight/mikelkpoet http://www.amazon.com/The-Delivery-Guy-ebook/dp/B00731KM5M

Some dreams are hard to let go of

I’m learning to play the guitar, again. I have tried, before, several times, and I could never quite master it. I have a great guitar instructor. She actually has given me faith in myself that I can learn this time. I am able to tune my guitar, now, which, to me, is amazing. Tuning a guitar has always been something that I thought that I would never be able to do. My dad told me, over and over, that “we” have no musical talent. I will never be a rock star, but I will be able to serenade my dogs on the carport. I will imagine them to be loving fans who dig my tunes!

When I was young, and drunk, I smashed several guitars in blackouts.  The “Oh Fuck,” of it when I woke up in the morning to find my axe shattered was severely depressing. Guitars were not all that I smashed drunk, but I am not going to get into all that, now. I was taught that, “We will not regret the past, nor wish to shut the door on it.”

Life is good today. I am learning chords, some of which I am going to put to my poetry, and I am learning two songs: “Knocking on Heaven’s  Door,” by Bob Dylan, and “Sittin’ on the Dock of The Bay,” by Otis Redding. My progress in learning these two great songs is slow, but sure. I am learning to do something that I was told that I couldn’t do.  I am doing something that I thought that I couldn’t do.  The chords G D A and C are becoming familiar to my once imbecilic fingers.  Maybe I will be a rock star, one day. Ha. Some dreams are hard to let go of.

My friend, Bill Brown posted this on his, “Arrest the Federales,” Facebook page, in connection with  an article about pot being good for Alzheimer's:

"Marijuana is baaadddd.... mmmmmkay?"

 My response:

Polluted waters, and air, is bad. The way they raise meat, and kill it is bad. Pesticides on our fruit, and vegetables is bad. The intentional shrinking of the middle class is bad. Many, many corporations are bad. The erosion of The American People's rights is bad. Telling us that they are invading foreign countries in the name of "freedom" is bad. Most politicians are bad. Toking and getting silly, sleepy, or artistic is not bad. There must be a reason beyond its effect on humans behavior that keeps it illegal. Life is good. Let's enjoy the day!!--K

PS: We have a family history of Alzheimer's. I watched a friend's father die of Alzheimer's, over a three year period. It was not a pretty thing. I have asked people to shoot me in the head if I get it. Pot can save me, huh??!!!
