Cell phone photographs

Rate: 7 Flag

Back in the "olden days" I tried my hand at black and white art photography. I had a lot of fun and actually produced a few photos that weren't too bad. The problem was that it was such a hassle trying to make photos without a darkroom. My solution was to set up everything in a bathroom, complete with the enlarger resting on the toilet seat, trays of chemicals in the bathtub, etc. It was a real hassle setting everything up and putting it all away.

Digital photography has changed all that, but for me the greatest innovation was cell phones that take photographs. Even a relatively mediocre cell phone camera can take some interesting photos.

The following are a few photos that I have taken with cell phone cameras. They are all unretouched -- just as they were right out of the camera:

Hey man, you are good! Like my photojournalism mentor told me years ago, it isn't the camera, it's the eye. Composition and finding the "truth" in a shot, no matter how simple, is what makes photographs cross over from documentation to art. I would get a cell phone camera myself, but then I'd have to put up with the damned cell phone.
Love these. More prooof that cell phone images, like pinhole, holga or antique polaroid works, can be art in the right hands.
My dear Monsieur Mishima ~

I encountered your blog today after reading your comment on another one. Your photographs are simply marvelous!
Impressive. I had no idea cell phone cameras could do that. Even in the right hands.
Lovely! Every one of them!
Thanks, not only for the photos posted here but for the link to your album.

You have some awesome shots. :-D
Yes! I'm so glad you shared these!
