Watermarks - More Cell Phone Photographs

Rate: 22 Flag

Here in Oregon we had a beautiful late summer, but the rain has returned, reminding me of the random effects of rain water on our urban structures.

I haven't taken any photographs in a while.  I've had a lot on my mind, not very good things, and just wasn't in the mood.  I haven't felt very good lately, physically or mentally.

I guess the rain today put me in a different place, a little more relaxed, maybe a little more able to get outside of myself.  I walked to a restaurant for lunch today, and on the way back to the office I took these photos with an iPhone camera.  They aren't photos "of" anything, just shapes, colors, and textures where the rain has been.  It felt good to capture a few images, and when I look at them now they remind me of how it felt to perceive without thinking about what I was seeing.

Yes, the rains have returned. It's still kinda warmish rain though.

Photos are really remarkable. Goes to show that its the eye behind the lens that makes the difference not the camera.

I was at a gallery tonight and the photos you took with your iphone are infinitely more interesting. The colors are wonderful. It doesn't take long for the moss and the slime to return either! No matter what the stock market does, the moss will keep growing in the NW rain.
These are fabulous. I love the textures and colors of a natural patina - you've captured it beautifully in these images. Very soothing.
Amazing what you can capture with an iPhone. Number 3 is so abstract that it could easily pass for a painting.
What Stephanie said--you have a great eye. These are gorgeous.

You remind me of a dear friend from my Ithaca, NY days. She loved the gray days, the rain and snow. She had nothing against a bright and sunny day, but she found some kind of pleasure and comfort in those cloudy skies that most of us complain about.
I love what water can do. Colorless, odorless, utterly nondescript in small doses, and infinitely capable of beauty and power. That's what the last photo in particular reminds me.
In the fall, Oregonians tend to dry up like our rain-starved moss. Our very souls soak in the first deluges and sigh with relief. Hope you will soon be feeling nice and cozy, Mishima, under our warm blanket of grey clouds.

btw, we come in three flavors: dripping wet (coasties), merely damp (valley folks ) and bone dry (east of our volcanos). Mishima and I are valley folks.

Thanks Mishima for the art.
M, Refreshing work! Reminds me of the Abstract Expressionists.
Olitski, Morris Louis, and of course the genius, Mark Rothko.
thanks.
RTD.
The suggestion of Rothko is right on, I could hang these right next to the Rothko print in my office and they would harmonize nicely.
Crusty. Gunky. Almost fetid. Love 'em.
I love these. Especially the first one.
Just came across this post -- are you feeling better? Love the photos!
