Four More Cell Phone Photographs

Rate: 20 Flag

I took this with my iPhone today while walking to the bus stop after work:

pond wall

And this while walking back to work after lunch.  A while back I took another photo of this building.  I really like the textures and colors.

Another Wall

I can't even remember where I took this:

Waiting for breakfast a couple of weeks ago with my old friend John.  I can't remember if the coffee was mine or his.  Taken at Central Cafe in Salem, Oregon.  We had a wonderful discussion.  John is great to talk to, wise, kind, and profound, often in the same sentence.

M, Very beautiful I really love the value range of the last B&W photo
the first one is quite magical.....
Lovely!! I think I've said it before - you have a wonderful sense of composition and an excellent feel for color and texture as well.
Quite remarkable. All of them. Is the second one altered in some way or is that the actual look of the texture?
No, the texture of the second one is pretty much like the way it came out of the cell phone. The outside I think is some kind of stucco, so it has a rough texture.

All of these photos are edited, mostly with the addition of some contrast and cropping. Cell phone photos typically need some editing because frankly, the camera isn't all that good or flexible. So the manipulations of the images that would normally take place in the camera have to take place outside of the camera.

As I've mentioned before, all of my cell phone photos are manipulated no more than what can be done in the Mac "Preview" application, that is pretty basic. If you're interested I have a whole post that discusses that:

Really nice, and wonderful that you are attentive to your surroundings, and what you appreciate about them, in such an observant way.
You prove with every post that you don't need an expensive megapixel rig to get amazing shots. I take my pictures with a very beat up Sony Cybershot that is scratched and dented and missing some of the trim. It has ridden in my front pocket for five years now and to save space on the memory card everything is on the lowest resolution setting.

I think what makes the difference with your photos is that you have an eye. You can look at something and see the photo there.
Love them all...but the last one of John I would frame and put in my office. If you have a high res of that one...I would love to have it.
The texture you capture is gorgeous. Your eye is finely tuned to see the beauty in our everyday surroundings. Thank you.
excellent! i must remember to use my iphone camera more often. in the hands of someone with an eye such as yours it can produce quite arresting imagery. thanks for these!
Incredble art! Thanks so much, Mishima!

rated and loved and still don't know how you do this with a cell phone!!!
Mishima - your photographic art is amazing! You have a talented eye for images and color. That last photo is especially evocative. Do you sell your work? You really should.
Lisa asks: "Do you sell your work? You really should."

Yes, I do. I charge exactly the amount that other Open Salon participants charge for their blog posts!

Really, the thought of having to print this stuff and cut mats for it, etc., is depressing to me. And I know absolutely nothing about how to sell photos or what to charge for them. So no, I actually have never sold any photos. If the economy gets bad enough I may reconsider!
I love the last photo.
I think we have completely settle the question of whether or not someone could just learn a little technique and practice a lot and end up this good. The answer is No. You do have The Eye.

That first one is such a cool juxtaposition of images and colors, by the way.
Wonderful! I am a fan of light and texture , too. There is something compelling about photos that force us to notice it by obscuring their subject matter. Great work.
Wow, let no man say that cell phones are a plague. These are some beautiful photos.
You have a quite a great eye with a cell phone. I can only imagine with a great camera.
RATED!!

Randolph, replying... :-)
m - great great photos.
k - you're starting to worry me.
Enjoyed those. Thank you.
Wonderful work Mishima. Remarkable clarity from a cell phone.
Just amazing.
