We're Working On It

Rate: 18 Flag

When asked about last weekend's crippling spam attack, our favorite OS editor replied that "we're working on it."

I take great comfort in the fact that they are working on it.  If the spam is this bad when they are working on it, just imagine how bad it would be if they weren't working on it.

And so, I offer the following as a small tribute to all those who are "working on" our multi-year spam problem.

 Famous Quotations:

"We're working on it."--  General George Custer, when asked how the battle at the Little Big Horn was going.

"We're working on it." -- Michael Brown, when asked how the Hurricane Katrina relief effort was going.

"We're working on it."  -- President Obama, when asked about how all of that hope and change is going.

"We're working on it."-- Emily Holleman, when asked what OS management is doing about the spam problem.

Famous Song:  Working On It, by Chris Rea:

Oh how I'd love it girl, just you and me
Take the day and fly
But oh this job, it's got the best of me
Tell you why, tell you why

Somebody above is in a desperate state
Some kind of urgency, the kind that won't wait
I say tomorrow, he say today
And the man in my head well he tell me no way
Keep working
I got eight little fingers and only two thumbs
Will you leave me in peace while I get the job done
Can't you see I'm working
Oh, oh I'm working on it
Oh, oh I'm working on it

Well they're coming from above me
And they're coming from below
Yea they're in there right behind me
Everywhere that I go
And my buddy, he's screaming down the telephone line
He say gimme, gimme, gimme
I say I ain't got the time
Oh, oh can't you see I'm working on it
Oh, oh I'm working on it
Yea, yea, oh tell 'em

How I'd love it girl, just you and me
Take the day and fly
But oh, this job it's got the best of me
Tell you why

Well they're coming from above me
And they're coming from below
Yea they're in there right behind me
Everywhere that I go
My buddy, he's screaming down the telephone line
He say gimme, gimme, gimme
I say I ain't got the time
Oh, oh can't you see I'm working on it
Oh, oh I'm working on it
Oh, oh I'm working
Oh, oh can't you see I'm working on it

And here's a music video featuring Chris Rea's Working On It.  I think this would be a great anthem and motto for Open Salon. Instead of  Open Salon:  You Make the Headlines, we could have Open Salon:  We're Working On It

Mishima ~ here's another song with a "working" theme:

Great song! Thanks for the link.
Good one.

P.S. - Thanks for your very own work as a spam-fighter.
Reminds me of the Beatles' "We Can Work It Out". Obviously, the Beatles couldn't, and to date, neither can OS. A page reload takes about 15 minutes -- and nobody will hang around long with that sort of lag. Enjoy my pithy (my keyboard has a lisp) comments while ye may.
The truth is that I try to put the people who run or who are paid by Salon out of my mind, and just focus on writing and sharing with those in this creative community. OS has greatly enhanced my writing experience, and I appreciate that, but I just try to put the politics and foibles of the organization out of my mind...and just write and read the work of others.
Chris Rea is definitely overlooked.
I'll listen later.

I'm working on something else right now.
As much as I hate it too (and have commented), Emily should not be the target of our anger.

She's just a hired hand that's doing and saying what she's told. Kerry's using her as a shield to hide behind since he can't man up and take the heat himself.
3 years and counting and they are still "working on it". Funny how all the other major website solved this years ago.
I don't want to make someone a "target." But spam has been a problem on Open Salon for over two years now, and it's getting worse. So when anyone in OS management says "we're working on it," I don't know what that means. Working on what? Doing what?
Indeed, this should be the new motto of OS. BTW, Kerry wrote a new comment today (in Emily's post) explaining why some of the solutions we proposed won't work.

Right. We are just easy gravy for OS. There is no work on their part.
Mishima - if you get tired of deleting OS spam - if you are still doing it, that is - take a look at the alternate site lorianne set up for us - Our Salon.

Hey man - they're still workin' on it!
And... still working on it...
I suspect that they'll be working on it this time next year . . . and the year after . . .
Read your note at Jake's and came over here to see if you had links to all these social sites you mention...
had to laugh in a sad sad way at your last post here.
*sigh*
Loved your Model T analogy -- while waiting for an OS page to load this week, my youngest came along and asked why I was just sitting there. When I replied 'waiting for an OS page to load' his response was: "You can tell OS is only old people -- nobody under 50 would wait like that for a page, Mom. OS: the site, you and your 'friends,' (his air quotes) are a bunch of dinosaurs. Move on already."
Thanks, belatedly.
I LOVE Chris Rea.
