'Better to light a small torch than curse the darkness!!"
I am a nature lover, a friend of my mother the earth, and an avid outdoorswoman. I love the early morning, late evenings, and all the time in between. Every new day brings opportunities, and every day I am still breathing and not being shot at is a good day.
I write for fun, and if I have lifted your spirits or brightened your day I have did very well.
Find peace this day and every day!

Fair Day
Waking up was easy. Laying there and not waking my sister sleeping beside me was harder. She snored that morning like a skipping tractor motor. So I crawled over the foot of the bed and ran to the window. A thin little moon hung down, barely enough to see thru the… Read full post »

Goswick's Old Store
The was a old style general store across the river from me when I was in my twenties and married the first time. It was ran by a grizzled old man named C.D. Goswick and his older sister. It was what was left of an old farming community long since left behind in… Read full post »
The Git 'er done Dog
My Dad was always a man to make a buck or two, anyway he could. With a total of eight kids he actually claimed as his living in the old house, he needed the dollars. Cash money, he called it.
He had a great love of hunting dogs. He bred, trained,… Read full post »
Evie's Crying (fiction friday)
Evie just could not stop. She kept right on crying. Why did her family not understand how hard this was? How could she explain the pain here? Having the fart windbag she called her husband of so many long years did not help since he was on the wrong side of… Read full post »
A Story from when I was a Kid
My parents both worked during the day when I was a child. I was the youngest at the time of seven kids. The house I lived in was one of those white frame farm houses, two story and on a small rise surrounded by old Oak trees. We had all the… Read full post »
Do You believe in Signs??
Yesterday I saw a brief rainbow across the clouds during the light rain. It only lasted a brief moment then faded away. I was out walking Mission, trying hard not to think much.
If my elderly great aunt would have seen it she would have said it was a sign.
Signs.
Growing up… Read full post »

'Hope'
I saw this Muscovey duck and the chicks walking down the street yesterday around noon. It was freezing cold here in Florida, and somehow it seemed so odd to me.
It's January, and here is a duck with new chicks walking down towards the canal at the curve in the… Read full post »
'Empty Windows'
I sit here often in these chairs. I look at the street and my neighbors. I met a family across the way when I first moved in. They had three small tots, two in diapers that always sagged, and an older girl chasing the tots on the big wheels. The… Read full post »

Trapping and being a Trapper
The history of living in Appalachia includes many different ways to make cold hard cash. Cash was hard to come by.
The fur trade is a good example. My family spent years trapping, including me. Yes, leg hold traps. Metal jaws attached at a metal stake drove deep in the ground.… Read full post »
Gettin' Free!
The New Year's loom
The darkest days are past
I face the new decade
Back agin' yesterday's gloom
Seeing the white light fast
Gettin' free
Gettin' free
Gettin' free to face the life
That's ahead of me!

'Jus' walking the beach Today(with pics for you)

I went to the beach today at De Soto Park below St Petersburg. My feet were heavy and I needed to lighten them up a tad. This scene is looking down the dog beach. I took Mission with me of course.

Reflections
I went for a walk today in the warm Florida sun. I put my Blue Tick hound on her lease and went for a long easy walk lost in thought. The bright sun bounced off the 'For Sale' signs swinging in the breezes. Half the bleached out pastel houses are… Read full post »
Black fades Grey
Stars shine bright
Cool breeze night
Palm fronds restless
Shadow dance stillness

Distant seagull flies
Waking baby cries
Waves smack sand
Open doors stand

The Greatest Recession: My Story
I see this recession tagged as 'The Greatest recession'. Living here in the urban area of St Petersburg, I certainly understand.
