'My Generation'

Rate: 19 Flag

My generation

Boomers they're called

Started out bringing change

spreading love and peace

throughout the land

Understanding for all

Protesting a war

It's right don't ya know

A path full with pitfalls

decorated with greed

On they went, marchers all

Shouting out mantras

Hand in hand

Dreams they had many

more than a few

It's called getting ahead

Down at the malls

Show and tell was the

Favorite game

Look at all the pretties

I have no shame

Buy and buy

bigger and best

Look what I got

bought at the sales

'Tis a marvelous life

For the games still a game

The folks who slipped

through the cracks so wide

Shame on them, shame

they don't know

the rules of this game

Look what I bought today

at the mall

Latest and greatest

I've got them all

I've worked hard

for these pretties of mine

These losers I call them

live below shame

The things you write in the middle of the night....
Change seems to be a common thread for me the last week ... and it seems for others too!

The things you write in the middle of the night are good .... and interesting too!
'The times, they are a-changing' Kate.
I cannot even write things like this in the day.
Excellent Mission.. most excellent,
'rated with hugs
I have no idea where this came from Linda.
A sad commentary, for sure....
The Who couldn't say it better~
I listen to classic rock all the time Scanner. Some of the songs say it better than this...
Excellent Neighbor . . . how close to the heart is the early morning hours.
I was once an "effete snob":decadent: marked by excessive self-indulgence and moral decay; "a decadent life of excessive money and no sense of responsibility"; "a group of effete self-professed intellectuals"

Now I shop at the Homeless Mission Store

Elijah Rising

You nailed us, Mission
You are always welcome Geezer.
Elijah, you see the truth. I shop at the same store now too.
The sorrow that is the wake of the shameless, sigh. Stay warm my friend.
Three cheers for boomers. My sister's one.
It's warm here fer sure Blue, and cold without.
TY Leon.
I loved this. My question for all of us now is: "what is next?" Will anything change?" I hope so, but I suspect not. R
I cannot see the herd chnging directions one bit Dave.
All gamers know is how to game the game.
Wow very powerful mission. And so inciteful. How did the bommers go so wrong?

On another note is that a picture of your dog. S/he (?) is a beauty!
I like this mission called life. It's always changing. Morphing. Evolving. Some things never change. Me? I'm always subject to change.
Methinks it is the mentality of herds dear.

Yup. That's my dog. She is a rescue. Spoiled beyond measure.
Change is good or bad according to what is changing Belinda.
Oooch, and aaaah.., Mish.. Like Alan Watts said, "Happiness lies just around the corner, if only, if only, you buy ONE MORE!" -- it's a smorgasbord of greed, power, and the elusive Comfort. Love your words, and the layout - perfect - the boomeranging from side to side, in the clamoring for it. R, for sure!
Purdy pooch, missy. ;) We adopted our mutt from a local vet hospital. Nuthin better than woman's best friend.
My radical friends from college are now corporate lawyers. How far we fall.
I can see you got this post Songbird.

TY again Belinda. Dogs are great bedwarmers and never bitch about money....laughing...
Down thru the cracks Ardee. Spat!!
reality - who needs it? the glitter takes the eye well off the hand that has stolen yet another soul...for now.
I got one more coming about the souls Snow. It is for another time.
Boomer weren't the only generation spending money. My parents, children of WWII, did tons of it.
I belong to this generation from my birth year From the Midwest.
I think the Boomers made spending an art form, more's the pity.
I fear that's what we've come to. Those who can purchase and those who cannot, with the cannots having no political or social value.
I am at the bottom of the pile enjoying the view Bell.
The cannots have became yesterday's trash pile.
and the top has gotten to be smaller each day.
Awww. You got rescued too? Me too. My dog Lola is right now frolicking with abandon in the snow with her play group friends while I am working since 5 am to pay for her goodies. yeah, I know all about spoiled. But they're worth it!
Mine is sleeping away on the bed. Still chasing rabbits somewhere in her head...Yes, rescued I got Antoinette. The best kind on earth
I hate the mall. ~r
The closest to the mall I go Trig, is a place with 'Mission' in the title..
You need a knack for the game for sure. The game holds no interest for many of us, and there are others that down't want us to know the rules. Heaven forbid we have all members of society perform as productive and happy. How could THEY benefit from that! We live at a place where the game is all that counts. My pile is bigger than your pile.? How can I get more of your pile? How can I make my pile bigger without helping (or even hurting) others? What's in it for me, me, me?
I got so little now Michael I no longer need to add to my 'pile'. I wish it was less.
Right now my room, is a terrible mess.....
The Boomers sold out just like every generation before and after has. But for a while there, the dream was certainly alive.
Suzanne, you make excellent points here! Back when Ronald Reagan was elected President I knew that '60s world that encompassed so many dreams and hopes was finally over. . . (I should note that Richard Nixon's election in '68 was the first big nail in the coffin.)
Mission: "For a pocket full of baubles; such are promises" Paul Simon

I know of what you write, Mission, and I lament, oh I so lament.
When did we give up our search for substance and replace it with a striving for the eternally meaningless ?
TY John and Harry.
Nixon was a big nail John. Then it got rightous to be 'picking the right side' and the divding wedge went into the heart of matters....

John Walker, we sold out all right. We got bought too cheap. We threw away something good and took trinkets for the best we had to offer. Our souls...
And we have gotten from there to here.

How sad. / R
Our souls were ought cheap Toritto. Now we harvest the crop. It is a damn shame too.
