A walk along the French Broad River....Picture Perfect

Rate: 47 Flag

 I titled this Steam Rise.

The warm water pours over the small power dam upstream from Marshall. This is my view from above the B&B where I board.

The day was clear and cool.

This isolated farm house looked inviting.

 The moutains in the distance.

The new bridge over the river.

The trusses of the old bridge in B&W.

 Redmon Dam from downstream.

A view of Redmon Dam from the RR tracks.

The inside of the old RR underpass.

These rocks and sand islands were large and looked like a nice place for a summer time sun tanning picnic spot.

I do wish the fishermen could have taken their trash with them.

Kudzu covered hillside. Nearly all those trees are dead.

A root cellar?? The ceiling was caved in.

Looked like these folks lived off the grid.

If you are going to live in a trailer, I guess the colors are up to you.

I found this riverside outhouse a hoot.

I was one tired out puppy. eight mile walks exhaust me. I am ready for bed. My eyes are closed.

 Hope you liked my walk.

I had so much trouble loading pictures this morning I cut this one short. And thanks IQ.
Awesome! Love the pics and that farmhouse would also fit my personality, but it would take me two weeks for an eight-mile walk.
I so wish I had strung it out over two weeks Michael. I am soooo sore today. Moving hurts.....
I loved your walk! You're really getting into this. You've sort of inspired me to do my own Americana post. I've got the pics I just need the energy to organize it.

But your post made me feel what you were feeling and that makes me feel refreshed. The B&W one was really cool.
Gee Harry. I did something and now you are inspired?? Excellent dear. Please do it. And soon.
Gorgeous pictures, photographer and assistant Mission. There must be a lot of peace in your heart because that is what your lens captures so beautifully. Thanks for sharing. I'm ready for a nap just thinking about an 8 mile walk!
I cannot hardly move today Antoinette. I am barely making the bathroom. RR track walking is rough on my feet. But glad you liked these photos.
The mountains at this time of year remind me of old men before their morning coffee, all scruffy and spiky. For the folk around there it is true that the trailer color is entirely their choice and living off the grid means better get to running before the birdshot starts flying! Be careful out there, Mission! ;)
I admit to dodging a few bits of lead aimed my way Linnn.
But I did not have any thrown my way yesterday.
These mountains have steep sides. My calves told me so today.
LOVED the walk! Many thanks! Pink trailer, coppery nature colors...and the graffiti...looks like a grand journey! Thanks for taking us along! R
Thanks for stopping by Muse and I am happy you enjoyed the sights.
Steam Rise and peaceful photos, congratulations on the top of the cover. The trailer is beyond fabulous, it looks like a giant fondant covered birthday cake, now I miss San Francisco.

The best is the photo of you, I blew you a kiss. Thank you for sharing your view.
I am thinking of taking a screen shot to admire Blue.
And I think I felt that kiss.
This is spectacular. In every way.
Nice pictures - I especially like the root cellar~rated!
Thanks for stopping by Travelite
You too Susie.
I enjoyed your walk, and after my post, was much needed. Could smell the fresh air, that out house photo..what a hoot, guess there is no holding your breath you enter there...hahaha

How sad that the fisherman have to destroy such a beautiful spot:(
Beautiful photos...... thanks for taking me along on your walk:)
Glad to see ya Dys. It was a day to keep in a jar. And remember the fresh air and sunshine.
I love that walk! Such a pretty area, your neck of the woods.
This is one of the most scenic places to live ever Bell.
I urge you to at least visit. My pictures do it no justice.
IO could shoot for a thousand years here....
Beautiful pix...and nice to see one of you!

Congrats on the cover!
As a matter of fact, I did enjoy the walk very much. Thank you.
I think the one of me will disappear sooner rather than later Myriad.
And I got a screen shot so I can remember this one.
Glad to see ya stop Brassure. I always like photos from you too.
Great photo essay, nice tour Mission, looks like spring is there, send it forward, please!
Sending spring over the cyberspace direct to you Rita!!!
The sun shines today but I am tuckered out here.
It is a pretty place and I am happy to post these pictures of it.
The only thing better would be to walk along the French Broad River with a beautiful French broad. Sorry, couldn't resist.
Kudzu! I loved this walk with you. Now go get some epsom salts and bathe away the sore muscles. Thanks for your hard work.
I would have known you would come up with some kind if great comment Tom. Glad to see ya.
Aim darlin'. I need a long soak a few miles away at Hot Springs. You can get a huge jacuzzi for $12 an hour. I am planning a later trip to do that.
"In my mind I'm goin to Carolina......"

Nice walk!

Question: How do you get your pix to load up so nice and big? Mine always load up somewhat too small. Thanks / R
I post them on a program called Picasa Toritto. And copy and paste. works like a charm with two windows open.
Mission... is it that hot you have shorts on?? :)
You are a brave on and you look great!!
beautiful and congrats on the EP.

Missed this this morning.
Rated with hugs
It almost hit 60F here Linda. I wore my shorts so I could wade the shallows. The water turned my feet blue in a flash.
And my legs got scratched with briers. But it was almost warm enough to say shorts today.
I loved this walk! The pictures are perfect, showing all the beauty, human footprints, and human life in this neat little corner of the country. I agree with the ghost about that B&W truss photo. the root cellar is also cool, and the damage from the kudzu is almost frightening. Great post, and great hike!
I wanted to write something nasty with a thank you to the Japanese for sending this invasive vine over to the south Procipius. I think the picture says it better. This stuff will swallow a house if not beaten back. Goats eat it well though.
Happy to show my corner of this world to all out there.
Congrats Mission! EP and cover Yay!
I got a screen shot in a file now to prove it Rita. I can show it to all the future employers lining up to end my years of joblessness. yeah right.
Suzanne, beautiful open and rolling country where you are! You have really captured the area so well and it looks like a region that is very quiet and peaceful throughout the year. Thanks for your wonderful photo essay on this!
Mission on the cover. Mission on the cover!

Fabulous my girl!!!
You got one recently too Trig.
But glad to see ya here. hope things are better your way.
beautiful, loved the trailer especially, and also really loved the black and white
Thanks for stopping by B.
I thought the trailer looked a wee tad white trashy to me.....especially with the trash pile located in the lower right corner.....
I've long heard of the French Broad River but never seen photos of it, so thanks for taking us on the walk. And congrats on the EP and cover!
lovely pictures ... they are poems.
It is truly a broad river Nana.
Chuck glad to see ya around these parts.
That was nice. Nice pics also.

If I were to do that here now, all the pics would be in black and white~~

white because of all the damn snow

and

because my mood is black from the never ending winter.

The other three days of the year when it isn't winter here in beercheeseville, I like to walk the snowmobile trail which wind through the woods.

Thank you for the respite.
John. I am so sorry I managed to skip your kind comment.
yes. It is rolling here. I commented by email that it is straight up both ways and I ain't got enough goat in my legs yet....laughing....
I do understand the Black XJS. I did my eight years in Canada and know the feelings well.
Yesterday was somewhat warm and sunny here in these hills.
Today?? cloudy with north wind and rain coming soon.
Spring will come your way soon. And you put up pictures of your neck of the woods dear!!
Neat!! Rated, but of course!! :)
I always enjoy a good armchair ramble.
You got some good ones over on your latest post Tink.
And yours are just as pretty too.
Nothing like sitting and traveling about Sarah. Glad you made it out alive and all.
Lovely pictures, especially the commode. -R-
It is called an outhouse here Christine.
This one was not smelly yet. But used and summer coming it will.....
I loved this walk with you, Mission. So invigorating and serene. Thank you so much for taking me along.

♥R
You get to enjoy the view dear Fusun. I get the sore feet and calves.......glad you came along.
Nice combination of lovely and quirky. You earned your rest!

But that trailer? Used to be on South Beach--fit right in there.
Loved your walk and the incredible photography! Favorite one is the B&W of the trusses of the old bridge. But all were spectacular!
I LOVED your walk thank you so much for taking us along!
I thank everyone for the kind comments and am happy to take you all with me for a walk. This raining here today and I plan on not much but pure laziness. Take care today and always......
I loved going along with you on your walk. (I'm exhausted.) I love black and white photographs, and the photograph of you is terrific! ~r
I love that you shared this!
How exceedingly cool! Great pictures, and a lovely walk. The closing shot was quite lovely, as well . . .
Wow nice images that really have the feel of spring time coming. The outhouse rules!
Love the photos, the outhouse made me laugh. I was reminded of places I traveled through in WV. I love the light at this time of year, it gives everything such a warm glow. -r
Loved it! Thank you. The French Broad is now backing up into my creek and onto my back yard. Not so charming now.
Lovely photos of your part of the world. Charming.
Loved the outhouse. Thanks for this walk with you- such a treat. Makes me hopeful to see so much beauty out there somewhere.
A little late here Mission, great walk. Thanks for sharing the scenery! Great pic of you and your dog.
Mission, I can't believe I missed this! It is so lovely...congratulations on the EP! xox
OK...this a great clue as to how to make the front page.
Beauty!
Well done!
I sure did...I spend part of the year in Sylva, NC so you made me homesick!!!
Thank-you for inviting me into your world. You are one lucky gal to have such views...such beautiful land at your fingertips. I loved this so much....off to dream...

When I arrived in Paris, for sumer vacation, I slept on the lawn ofSt. John the divine for three days, despite the fact that I had friends, living there.

When the gendarme, became wise to my game, I moved to the Seine, directly across from the Louvre, and slept like a baby, there for another couple of day's.

Taught a little ESL, and returned to Casablanca, and came to really understand the French.

Freedom fries, my butt - they're way outpaces ours by a bazillion kilometers.

Thanks for the memories.

-R-
I'm late to the hike, but thanks for this tour! I enjoyed this so much...
