Harry Smith on Chubby Parker's "King Kong Kitchie Kitchie Ki-Me-O (Froggie Went A-Courtin')": "Zoologic Miscegeny Achieved in Mouse/Frog Nuptuals, relatives approve!"
What a great, romantic song! It's got it all man: Zoologic miscegeny, extreme violence, Frog/Mouse offspring.
Love knows no bounds!
Happy Valentine's Day!
Music: Chubby Parker and his old time banjo (1928). Film: Kris Anka

that frog kicks ass!
You got that right, Mychwa. Thanks for this.
And thank you lunchlady and Jali--I wanted to do something a little different for V-Day.
McGarrett--there are most definitely more lyrics to the song. Versions of "Froggie Went a-Courtin'" can be traced back to the 1580s (a composition titled: "A Moste Strange Weddinge of the Frogge and the Mouse "). The song originated in Northern England, traveled through Ireland before making a home here in America.
And you're right that the repetition, but I'd contend that that's why it's such a fun song to sing. Everyone can join in. A great porch/campfire sing-a-long song.
♥Happy Day MJ ♥
Just an extra note on the history: The original 1580s version was inspired by the prospective marriage of Queen Elizabeth to Francois, Duke of Anjou (when Elizabeth was in her 50s; Francois was more than 20 years younger). Elizabeth nicknamed Francois her "frog". So the courtin' Froggie was this Duke of Anjou -- and the episode may have been the origin of British references to the French as "Frogs" ever after.
