Matundu Makalani was born in West Long Branch, New Jersey and has lived in Ithaca, New York; San Francisco, California, Oberlin, Ohio; Paris, France. A graduate of the Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs at Syracuse University in Public Administration, he has his own consulting business called Isms & Issues and leads workshops in race, class, gender and multicultural issues. His work has appeared in In These Times, Community Ink, Ithaca Times, Oberlin Review, Wheat Street Independent, San Francisco Examiner, Ithaca Journal, 14850 and Essence Magazine.
