This particular photo has me intrigued, I feel drawn to it - I even dyed my hair jet black for a while and I still love that look of jet black hair.
Anyway, I love collecting vintage photography because although I can only go as far back as the 80's since I am part of the generation X crowd. Going further back intrigues me very much for its mysterious time period.
The intense stare into the camera by the man in the hat is very distinct. Very manly... I think that is the reason I am drawn to the TV series Mad Men. On some level it is fascinating if you've never lived in that era. I don't care for the politics, as far as that goes it's like the TV show All in the Family. That show was very controversial but it made waves and you hoped that the main character Archie Bunker finds deeper meaning towards a satisfying conclusion. Unfortunately sometimes that doesn't resonate into reality. I think Mad Men is the same somewhat in the era it tries to reflect. Image is from a book called Let Us Now Praise Famous Men.
On the topic of photography -
I received a surprising email by the author of a book entitled Dancing Naked In the Material World and she gave me some links to her other works. If you love photography she has a great collection and has her own workshop. Marylin Suriani is her name.
