25 By Old Blue Eyes: Sinatra's Great Standards

Rate: 23 Flag

There is no socially redeeming agenda here. Nothing to read. Nothing to think about. Nothing to get all worked up over. Just great music. By The Man himself.

Just slip on some headphones, or turn on some nice speakers, and listen. Open OS or any other sites in another tab and go about reading, writing or whatever else you want to do. The list will keep playing until you want to stop it.

This is too good to miss. The Chairman of the Board at his finest. I took a lot of time organizing only the best here, and have arranged them to move smoothly from swing to ballads and back, including some sentimental songs that are identified solely with Old Blue Eyes at the very end.

This is my tribute to Frank as a follow up on the popular "Who's Going to Fill Their Shoes" post. Nobody will ever fill Sinatra's shoes.

 Enjoy!

Love Sinatra. When my children were colicky infants, I used to soothe them by dancing with them on my shoulder to the samba album he did with Jobim. Thanks for a good listen!
Thank you for this one too :) ~ am enjoying this.

This is a gift to the world. Beautifully done. My favorites are the ones with Basie. And you talk about stories? No one told a story like Sinatra. This is wonderful.
I especially like New York, New York (which is on the list) and Mack the Knife (which is not). Nice post!
Thanks, Rev. "Witchcraft" and "Summer Wind" are just two of my faves.

The Best is Yet to Come Rated
Frank is SO AWESOME! It's odd, but last night I played Summer Wind for my 7 year old daughter. Then we were supposed to read for 20 minutes as her first night's homework. I pulled out my Time Life book of Frank Sinatra. She didn't think he was so hot. Till I showed her a picture of him when he was 7 (cute as a bug). Then she wanted to know more. We flipped through the book and I just narrated the pictures for her. At the end she said, "He sure was a happy man." I asked her what she meant and she said, "He is laughing, not just smiling, in almost every picture." She was right. I had not noticed that before. Old Blue eyes had to have been and absolute blast to be with.
Oh, Monte! You're an old romantic to boot! Frankie's the man!
Sweet vocals from a sweet man!
Diggin' the Chairman, but I love the stuff with Basie best.

Apache, don't tell the youngun' but Frank was a blast...when he was up. As a notorious manic depressive, his down side was mega-dark. Check into some of his exploits with Ava for a good look.
My love for Sinatra grows each year, what a great collection you have put together here Monte. Thanks.
That CD/album is one of my favourites. The Capitol years were undoubtedly Frank's greatest.
Hi, guys and gals, thanks for commenting.

I am not going to comment on this post individually, just let you all reminisce and share your stories and favorites.

Needless to say I was a fan of Sinatra from the time I was a young boy, and never lost my admiration of his work through all these decades. To me he will always be Numero Uno, the beautiful voice, the perfect diction, the subtle, distinctive phrasing, the pure instinctive ability to tell a story with a song, and to make you feel that the way he does it touches the stars.

Thanks to you all and see you tomorrow.

Frank was one of my mom's personal favorites so I grew up to the sound of his voice blasting on the hi-fi. Old Blue Eyes was one cool cat! I still choose Frank when I just need that "sound."
Monte: This was a great way to start my day. Twice! Thanks so much for this mix.
At age 15 I asked my parents for a Frank Sinatra album for Christmas. "September of My Years" was, and has been my favorite of his, especially "When I was Seventeen"...thanks Monte!
Oh. Bookmarked and rated!
That's quite an impressive play list, Monte. Frank definitely knew how to get it done with the vocals.
Thanks for the further comments, everyone. I didn't abandon you. But I was up all night until 11 am with med issues and got about 4 hours sleep just now, so feel better. Damned feet anyway.

But I do appreciate the comments and am glad Old Blue Eyes is giving you some enjoyment.

You all are the best.

Monte
I'm sooo coming back for this one . . . excellent, Monte!
Oh, I LIKE this! Frank Sinatra & my daughter share a birthday (December 12th) so I've always had a soft spot for him, & love watching him in films. I never think to listen to his CDs, so this is a treat. I have some old scratchy 78's of Sinatra, passed down from my mom. Really scratchy, so that it's strange hearing him without hissing & pops & clicks. Thanks, Monte!
My dad's favorite! Thanks for this Monte!
As usual, I'm late getting here, but I'm always happy to arrive! I will thoroughly enjoy listening to these songs since he's one of my favorites! Thanks for doing this for us.
As Chicago Guy mentioned, he was a great storyteller. How cool of you to put this together. Bookmarking.
Thanks again, folks. There are a lot of Sinatra fans out there and you all are the tops.

Monte
Nice, nice listening music, Monte!
Great tribute to Sinatra. Loved the music. Got a chance to listen to a few of them, but got to go make lunch now, so will be back to listen to the rest of them.
Thank you for this..Loved it!
