JOE LIEBERMAN: The Mortimer Hayden Smyth Interview

Joe Lieberman: The Mortimer Hayden Smyth Interview

I was fortunate enough to land a 10-minute phone interview with Joe Lieberman on Sunday afternoon-- we talked in between a flurry of phone calls he was making to various Senate colleagues as he desperately tries to influence Tuesday's secret ballot vote.  (The Democrats are threatening to take away his chairmanship of the Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee, a prospect which Lieberman describes as "unacceptable.")

Of course, Lieberman is the Man Of The Week-- the Democrats want him OUT, the President-elect wants him IN, and the Republicans want him to CROSS OVER.  I tried to cover as many topics as I could in our brief chat:

-- "Joementum" in the McCain 08 Campaign
-- The Meaning Of The Word "Lieberman"
               -- Super-solider Serum
-- What Makes A "Good" Question
-- What He Will Do If He Doesn't Get His Way

The part about "consequences for me" is just brilliant. It's very satisfying to hear that actually vocalized by Joe The Lieberman. Thanks!
Arrrrggghh.... urrrrggghhh.. uuhhhhhhh...

HA
Joe Lieberman is a man of principals or he wouldn't be standing in the middle being pulled like a gumby doll.
BeverlyJRaffaele sez; "Joe Lieberman is a man of principals..."

Yeah, any number of them, to fit any occasion.

I am reminded of this quote: "Those are my principles. If you don't like them I have others." Groucho Marx
Hilarious! Lieberman has always bored me to tears. I say strip him of his chairmanships. He rarely has any valuable input to speak of. Traitors should be punished. If he wants to jump ship, throw him an anchor. The GOP deserves him. I suspect he'll vote that way most of the time anyway. Dude has a serious gastro- intestinal malady of some sort. Sounds like you caught him in the crapper. How fitting.
I love the way he sounds like he's being pulled slowly and bodily through a keyhole ;-D
My heart goes out to Joe-- you can tell from the tone of his voice that he's in some kind of extraordinary agony.

He just got done strenuously campaigning for a dear friend with whom he has major disagreements on a great many issues. Now, he may face punishment from the people with whom he mostly agrees. In response, he may well switch over to the side where he hardly agrees with anybody, which might feel somewhat disagreeable if and when he gets there, although those folks are in such dire straits that, despite their many disagreements, they will surely all agree to make him feel hugely welcomed.

Though surrounded by many, he is a man alone. He is LIEBERMAN. (prounced \lē-bər-man\ not \lē-bər-mən\. You know, like "Superman.")
Next time you should get Joe to agree not to take the call when he's on the bowl.
Was Joe the Lieberman "indisposed" at the time of this interview, Mort? I'm just asking, because that kind of efficiency and resourcefulness is really impressive.
I did not wish to pose such an indelicate question during our brief chat, but I will say this: I have spoken Senator Lieberman in person before, and he sounded exactly the same. If the suspicions voiced here are onto something, I suspect that he is in the habit of employing an Absorbency Garment. But bear in mind, I'm only speculating.
I always thought this was Lieberman's finest moment:

Amazing and weird. I did not really think this was Lieberman until further into the interview.
No that's not him.

It is him?

So confused.
Now that I've heard this in its entirety, I have to say it's unnervingly brilliant.
"I"m just glad I have such a healthy capacity for living in denial."

Brilliant! :)
