Two suggestions: For reference, The Whole World Catalog, all additions. From them you can make anything. And, even more important, O'Really's soon to be published, "Sex - My Way: The Illustrated Version." It not only includes instructions, but she comes with it as the teacher; that perfect companion on those long balmy island nights ... spiceeee!
But won't we have Wifi on the OSland? I think we should all buy Kindles with some of the money that is left over from the OSIsland purchase. Books might rot.
I love the wine making and cookbooks you listed. I will volunteer to be the winemaker and secondarily serve as sous chef to cartouche. The only cookbooks I have to have are any you can find by Jimella Lucas and Nanci Main, owners and chefs of The Ark Restaurant & Bakery on Washington's Long Beach Peninsula.
My favorite books are all of the Jungian, feminist, ecologist type, such as Clarissa Pinkola Estes, Jean Shinoda Bolen and Susan M. Tiberghien, and Johanna Macy. Also, Robert Michael Pyle, Susan Tweit, and Terry Tempest Williams.
You already have the Bible and the Talmud. Books by spiritual/religious writers would be any book by Anne Lamotte, Michael Fox, CS Lewis, CG Jung, Sri Aurobindo.
Funny books: Carl Hiassen and David Sedaris. Some Theodor Seuss Geisel (Dr. Suess)?
Being from Oregon, I'd have to bring my Ken Kesey's books: One Flew Over the Cuckoos Nest and Sometimes a Great Notion. Related to that: The Electric Kool-Aid Acid Test (I love Tom Wolfe).

Before you can move on to Betty Crocker or Fannie Farmer (and the Fannie Farmer Cookbook needs to be added to the list of reference materials) you need to at least have some basic knowledge and unfortunately there are a lot of people who really can't boil water.

Greg- Thanks much for the reference.
Denese- WiFi andKindles? I'm old-school I guess...love the heft of a book in my hand, the scents of the cover and pages and being able to place a homemade bookmark, set it on my nightstand and have it beacon me to return...
I like your suggestions and your comment made me realize that I had intended to include C.S. Lewis "The Screwtape Letters" (pulled the virtual jacket and everything before posting) Now corrected. Thanks.
Spin Doctor- Me too, from the suggestions in comments.
Stephen- No surprise here, either. How in the world did I neglect to include Tennessee Williams? Omission corrected! I used his, "From Candles to the Sun," book jacket. I read it years ago and was captivated by this story of the coalminers' struggle to unionize. Right up there with Upton Sinclair's "The Jungle," in my opinion.
Chicago Guy- All excellent, but how did I forget Checkov? (slapping forehead)
T. Michael- Impressive list and as above, slapping forehead yet again for omitting Ray Bradbury, Williams S. Burroughs, Keats, D.H. Lawrence.
hourglass, halfof42 &MrsRaptor- WOW! My kist took two days to create and post, this could be a month-long process! lol
These were already included in the original post:
Unabridged Dictionary, Roget's Thesaurus, Encyclopedia Britannica, National Geographic Atlas, Poe, Shakespeare, Wilde, Yeats, Bronte sisters, Anderson & Bros. Grimm.
I meant to include The PDR, Basic Sewing guide, Koran, Astronomy Guide and a World Histor volume. Thanks for the reminders.
And the others are fine additions indeed, Ladies. I appreciate you taking the time to send your lists. I'll work them into my original post, as time permits. (and credit each of you of course)
Fanny Farmer's cookbook will be added post-haste.
Walter- I like your alternative suggestions. I am captivated by all of Michener's work. And I'll be happy to add Leon Uris other two...adored trinity as well.
