My professional and academic background is fairly broad including a Bachelor's in Cultural Anthropology, a Master's in Environmental Science along with a hefty injection of world history in the mix. Professionally, my experience is in public health and environmental health where I have been lucky enough to work with people from varied backgrounds and cultures. I started the Mashed Potato Bulletin to explore answers to questions not being asked and to insert, hopefully, a broader perspective into the current conversation. ----------------------------------- http://mashedpotatobulletin.com/

GOP Campaign Distaste over bin Laden Mission Success

Rate: 0 Flag

All this criticism from the Republican Party around the “politicization” of the bin Laden mission is rather interesting. It sounds like Romney and the Republican Party in general do not want to be reminded of their long-term inability to attend to the terrorist leader. With Obama touting the successful mission, it places their inadequacies upon the public stage for all to see. They seem to have few reservations when it comes to hounding the President on every, single, solitary action he takes that might hold the potential for failure but when it comes to a display of their own shortcomings they respond in a manner reminiscent of a spoiled child.

Perhaps, the GOP and Mitt Romney need to toughen their skin a little and come to terms with the reality that President Obama is indeed responsible for setting the mission that eliminated America's most wanted person in motion. He ordered the continued pursuit of intelligence, the planning of the operation and ultimately made the decision to go ahead with it knowing full well if it failed it could be the end of his presidency. Just as Jimmy Carter suffered politically from the failed attempt to rescue the 52 American hostages from Iran in 1980, the Obama presidency would be at similar risk had the May 1st 2011 mission ended differently.

For those who criticize the President for touting this event perhaps they should question their own reactions to the same credit claimed by one George W. Bush for the capture of Saddam Hussein during his 2004 re-election campaign. What amount of criticism did these very same people level upon him for touting that success?
