Bio
I'm an old, short, fat, unsightly, grouchy, reformed troll with a bad attitude and a cricket bat. ---------------------------------------------------- I need to state clearly that English is not my first language. There are upwards of 600,000 words in the English language. In my native language there are a mere 11,000 and most of those are entire concepts (kind of like the theory of relativity) rather than words which translate individually. ----------------------------------------------------- Free advice: Don't.

Nope Scruffus... A pound is not a pound and they are not the same.
A pound of feathers.
A pound of gold is twelve ounces and a pound of feathers is 16 ounces.
.
And one must also consider the dog pound with indeterminate ounces.
Skye, Gold (like all precious metals) is measured in Troy ounces. There are 480 grains (a smaller unit of measurement than ounces) in a troy ounce and a total of 5760 grains to the pound of gold.

Everything else in the world (when being measured in pounds) is measured in avoirdupois ounces or pounds. There are 437.5 grains per avoirdupois ounce and 16 avoirdupois ounces in a pound for a total of 7000 grains to the pound of feathers.

Jan... different meaning for the word "pound"... but a cute response.

Jon... just ODD knowledge.
