Bio
I'm an old, short, fat, unsightly, grouchy, reformed troll with a bad attitude and a cricket bat. ---------------------------------------------------- I need to state clearly that English is not my first language. There are upwards of 600,000 words in the English language. In my native language there are a mere 11,000 and most of those are entire concepts (kind of like the theory of relativity) rather than words which translate individually. ----------------------------------------------------- Free advice: Don't.

"To Ride Pegasys"

Rate: 6 Flag

The title of this post comes from a book by Anne McCaffrey (1926 - 2011), who was, imho, the "Queen" of science fiction/fantasy. In the book a group of people with some interesting abilities perform some interesting feats using only their minds.   (Give it a read if that partiular genre of reading material interests you)

Each of us has something that we do well and without really "working" at it. Some are more blessed (or cursed depending on your perspective) with these talents. For some their "talent" is cooking, for some it is mechanics, for some it is writing, for some it is design, for some it is healing... each of us is different and in each of us out talents are different.

For some the talents are just "there" without conscious thought. For others the talents that they have have been honed to a fine edge, much as a knife maker hones the edge of a Damascus Steel blade. For some their talents have required them to obtain a license from the state in order to do what they do, such as the doctor, nurse or mechanic. For some, such as Stephen King, Arthur C. Clarke, Piers Anthony, Constance O'Banyon, Anne McCaffrey and a host of others, their talents in writing have brought a measure of fame. Still others have talents in acting... they can turn it on and off like a light switch. I think we all can name someone that we are close to who has the proverbial "green thumb" whose house and yard more closely resemble a jungle than they do anything else.

What talents do YOU possess? Have you "trained" them or are they just there? Is it possible that those innate talents that people have are what are called "parapsychic abilities"?

Michelle says my greatest talent is still being alive after numerous failed attempts to kill myself. I didn't have a talent to be a Pararescue Specialist but when I finally became one I had many and learned many more to add to them in Vietnam. I bought a farm but wasn't a farmer, but 40 years later I think I got the gist of it really good. You develop a talent out of failure and ability. Learning nurtures and environment plays a role also. Michelle was looking over my shoulder and said you have a talent for getting on my last nerve daily. Feel the love there. See ya MrsR by best as always.......o/e
I love the genre - and am a complete skeptic about "para" talents of any kind.

For a greater than average example of the wonderful talent of some of the people who express themselves in this manner, try any of the books and shorts by Zenna Henderson; especially her earlier writings of "The People".

.
The most annoying ( and thereby the most fun) talent I have is word bending. ( see "the Parable of Little Ms Deeds") Sadly it has not yet paid any bills, but it has always been useful when bullied on the playground. ( I and if that doesn't work, ---)
I could always read people and I am always right, Does this count? When it comes to the supernatural, I have an open mind, and I believe it when I see it. R
I'm a really good swimmer. I taught myself how to swim, and have worked at becoming faster, sleeker and stronger in the water. It's like I'm a water baby, returning to the womb when I'm in a pool. I love it. I'm a pretty good cook, but I picked that up from my grandmother. I'm very detail oriented, and a good copy editor. I can ride my bike with no handlebars. Finally, I have a good eye for design. Are any of these skills useful at all in this economy? Nope.
Love McCaffrey, hope her son stays interested in P.E.R.N. (may I live there in some alternate universe someday ;).

Talent? I seem to be skilled in fence walking :D. Due mainly to the Libran curse of seeing all sides.. Catalyst mostly though :). Cerebral talents. Para would be empathic (both a boon and bane as well).

Rated for more folks need to think on this kind of thing..
