I need to state clearly that English is not my first language. There are upwards of 600,000 words in the English language. In my native language there are a mere 11,000 and most of those are entire concepts (kind of like the theory of relativity) rather than words which translate individually.

I almost got arrested... For using the restroom
Way back in 2000 I was threatened with being arrested just for using the restroom. Of course it WAS the men's room... and I DID refuse to let any men into the room because I had sent a bunch of little girls in to use it...
But there WERE mitigating… Read full post »
Let's talk about... Sex.
Victorian Sex at that.
Queen Victoria reigned from 1837 - 1901. Her Reign is generally referred to as "The Victorian Era".
I laugh every time that I see or hear someone talk about "Victorian sexual repression". The Victorians weren't as "inhibited" with regards to se… Read full post »
Passion, and "Chinese Whispers"
Chinese whispers is a children's game. For some daft reason there are those who insist on playing it after they become adults. It is hilarious to watch it being played on websites. In one form or another it happens on just about every "social" type website and it d… Read full post »
One day I will get myself in trouble picking on Judges.
Where I used to live in Michigan I knew all of the judges. I harassed them unmercifully on a fairly regular basis too. I knew them NOT because I was a "troublemaker" but rather because the vast majority of them lived in the municipality where I was an election official and… Read full post »
Watching the sun rise remotely...
One of the neat things about the internet is that, thanks to the plethora of webcams, you can see farther than your nearest horizon. I think over the last few months I have watched the sun rise over most of the active volcanoes on Earth.
The sunrise over Fuji is… Read full post »
Glioblastoma Multiforme in pictures...
I know, all to intimately, what Senator Kennedy's family has been through over the last 18 months. You see on August 7, 2003 my mother was diagnosed with the same disease. 15 months and 5 days later my mother passed away.
Those were the longest 15 months of my life;… Read full post »
Can you boil water?
"An idiot's guide to boiling water"
That sounds like a horrible title for something now doesn't
it? The sad reality though is that the world is full of
people who can't boil water. Boiling water is at the heart of
an awful lot of cooking. It helps to know the difference
between… Read full post »
A "Silent Chernobyl"... Ecological disaster in the making
In the United States there is a disaster looming that will
likely turn out to be greater than all of the combined nuclear
disasters on the planet.
It is estimated that there are more than 1000 abandoned Uranium
mines in Montana, South Dakota and Wyoming. Those
states, along with North Dak… Read full post »
I just don't care...
Barack Obama is the 44th man in the entire history of the United States to become the most powerful man in the United States of America by the CHOICE of the American People. THAT is one HELL of an accomplishment. The accomplishment ALONE puts him in the same "class" as men… Read full post »
Of Leather britches and Dilly Beans
No, I am not referring to Leiderhosen -- those nifty shorts made of leather (that are hotter than Hades) but rather to a specific way to prepare green beans that has existed since long before canning.
This contemplation of old fashioned things that you never hear about anymore with… Read full post »
Ode to the Ladies Room
About a lifetime ago I was taking some night classes at the local community college and went in to class one night to discover that there was NO toilet paper in ANY of the ladies rooms that I could find. This bit of poetry got the attention of the college with… Read full post »
Making Rainbow Stew
I am a "multi-ethnic". There's no other way to desccribe my ethnic background. My gramma on one side was African native (Bubi) and Scots. My gramma on the other side was German. My grandpa married to the Bubi/Scots gramma was Lakota. My gran… Read full post »
More about IHS "Medical Care"
Located in Rapid City South Dakota, Sioux San hospital is an IHS hospital servicing the medical needs of the residents of the Pine Ridge reservation. The OTHER government run health care plan
One of the concerns that many of us have with regards to the health care debate is one that there is not a single "liberal", "progressive" or "Democrat" who is willing to address with anything approaching HONESTY. Questions are invariably answered with "Oh that won't happen" and w… Read full post »
Corporate Campaign Contributions are already illegal
Every time that I see someone railing about this senator or that congressman taking campaign contributions from whatever company I sit here and laugh at their ignorance. It IS ignorance that brings about statements with regards to contributions from corporations.
In 1917 legislation was… Read full post »
The Aftermath of Surviving Abuse
Yesterday I wrote about SURVIVING abuse... today I'm writing about the aftermath of it. I'd like to say that everything was "sunshine and roses" but the reality is that it wasn't. For a little while life felt like an even bigger nightmare.
I remember very calmly telling… Read full post »

Three of our children are disabled. Harry, age 15; Lexi, age 6 and Angel, age 6. There have been many days when I have, at the end of the day, sat down and bawled my eyes out and thought "Why me Lord?" and then I look at my sleeping angels and… Read full post »

What to do with leftovers & ways to stretch food budgets
We don't call leftovers "leftovers" around here... we call them "planned overs". Why? Because I invariably wind up turning them into something else. For instance: tonight's left over spaghetti (heavy on the veggies) will turn up for lunch tomorrow or the next day a… Read full post »
"Rescuing" wilted veggies and bruised fruit.
We all know the reality with regards to groceries... the price of them is going nowhere but up. There ARE ways to cut the grocery budget without sacrificing either nutrition or taste, both of which are extremely important when one must stretch the food budget until they are sure that it… Read full post »
"Capture the critters" AKA Nobody listens to the old broad

WHY oh WHY?
Someday I will likely learn better. Maybe. I hope.
I have an uncle (in-law) who has a bit of a problem with alcohol. Now, he will say that he doesn't have a problem... he gets drunk, falls down, passes out... no problem. He does this daily. … Read full post »
On the issue of racism...
Before I take this any further allow me to make full disclosure. I am a rather interesting ethnic mixture being roughly equal parts Bubi (African Native from the island of Fernando Po), Lakota, Scots/Irish and German.

What ARE you people so "proud" of? Seriously.
I simply cannot understand WHY people are so damn proud when it comes to July 4th.
I also can't understand Columbus Day and Labor Day... Memorial Day is a mite easier to understand but honestly MOST holidays in the US make absolutely NO sense.
Christmas? What's the po… Read full post »
