In the beginning was the word ...

Maybe we humans haven't yet got over how clever we are to have invented words.  WORDS HAVE POWER!

Certainly we're not over how clever we are to put those words into a form that transcends the time and place of their first utterance.

And then Mr. Gutenberg came along… Read full post »

Some posts to check out

I was excited to see that Herman Cain has joined OS and produced a meaty post, with, er, meaty or bloody sentences like this:  "His strong declarations have restarted the actual blood flow inside Numerous fatigued abnormal veins."

Note - this may not actually be Herman (or "Herb") Cain, but… Read full post »

I got these as "heritage tomatoes" from our alternative foodstore.  I'm gonna save the seeds and see if I can produce some of my own next year. They're very good.  The green ones are fully ripe.  The yellow ones have flavour and bite, not like the non-acid yellow tomatoes in… Read full post »

THEY DID IT AGAIN!

It's going to be a game to see what horrible audience reaction happens at these Republican debates.

Last night it was booing a gay soldier.  A man who had the guts to have his name and face up for the whole world to see.

Last week it was… Read full post »

This ancient bridge is engineered from living trees

In Meghalaya, India, locals have to deal with heavy rainfall and frequent flash floods along the many streams that supply water to the area. And yet this forbidding environment has given rise to an architectural practice that sounds like something

A couple of songs for the Equinox

...which is today, or maybe tomorrow or even Friday.  It's a convention to say it happens on the 21st when in reality it's a little more complicated...due to a wobble in the earth's orbit or our imperfect calendar.

Whatever.  Happy end-of-summer-coming-of-(sob)winter day.

The Hot and the Cool of it

Over the weekend I went to a Pagan harvest festival that featured the burning of a wicker bull.  Here's some pictures.

Weirdness Watch

I'm 'supposed' to be writing my post about my ideas of freedom, the constitution, rational health care etc., in reaction to the reaction to my post infelicitously title You Ass of A (snicker).  However, I cannot bring myself to put in the time as long as the sun is shining.… Read full post »

I'm still working on my follow-up post to the one yesterday that produced a lot of comments and, at least for a couple of readers, a fair amount of indignation.

But I just caught something on CNN.  And here's another account.

Ron Paul had an aide, Kent Snyder, who diedRead full post »

They did it again! The tea party crowd cheered death.

Last debate it was cheering for executions. Last night it was for the uninsured to die.

Perhaps living here in the socialist hell of Canada, there's something I don't get. Are all those people in the audience trust-fund… Read full post »

Where's Tom Cordle?

Has he been disappeared - either voluntarily or otherwise?

I noticed a comment from him is no longer on one of my blogs I was catching up on, and "search" only turns up posts with his name in the title but none by him.

I went to Google, where his OS… Read full post »

THIS AIN'T THE OSCARS

So I watched the Republican debate last night.

And I am puzzled - and indignant - about the politeness and deference of the questioners.  The candidates can spew nonsense and the media lap-dogs make the occasional feint, but essentially let them get away with it.

Perry was asked what he thought… Read full post »

Wasn't that a party

As soon as the weekend get-together was over, so was summer.  Saturday and Sunday had continued the hot-and-humid weather, but on Sunday night some rain fell and a new system moved in, and now it's cool and humid.  Ah, fall...

Some pictures - an attendee put up a whole bunch of… Read full post »

As part of a ritual at our Pagan festival this coming weekend, I've put together various shrines, culminating in a Spirit Shrine.

The way up (temporarily Xed off) is studded with Buddhas.

Waste not, want not (or something)

My friend/neighbour/handyman Frank brought me this yesterday.  When I cut into the cuke it smelled like melon and was so crisp and delicious. The tomatoes were just on the verge of almost-too-ripe and were wonderful.

Making a meditation place

It's a spot in the woods that I've long wanted to do something with.  It's a small circular stone foundation with an opening.  Don't know its original purpose.

I have some people helping me get things ready for my daughter's and my Labour Day Pagan bash, and I got them to… Read full post »
