Proves Indian overseas trade relations with Egyptian empire before Christ, tech for dying, weaving, gathering silk worms, processing silk thread out of the coccon and navigation on the high seas existed as far back as then.

And everyone Spanish, Portugues, French, British were constantly trying to discover the route to India. When Columbus landed in Mayaland and found the Maya gold he thought he had reached tjere - so the poor Maya people ended up being known as the Red Indians and even lost their own land eventually and needed reservation in their own space.

In a way then so to speak America came to be because they were looking for India :)

Later they reached West Indies and thought they had found us - finally when they didfind the place they mapped the water around it as Indian ocean so as not to lose their way again

And in those days India was indeed the only source of diamonds, rubies and pearls. People would find their way into China and Bali later. The Brits took away nearly all of that wealthwhen they left including valuable Indian manuscripts - so, Indians have to PAY to go to the Albert Museum to study their own texts :)

And yes, Victoria, the Third Coalition was created to make sure we didn't get gobbled up by anybody ever again - India always liked to stand apart and make its own rules as far as possible.

Title: Not Even Alex Tribec Could Answer These.
Which language is the source language for English, French, Russian and Italian?

I THINK THEY ARE ALL PROTO-INDO-EUROPEAN LANGUAGES.

What is common to these words : Shampoo, Guru, Mantra, Brahmins, Navy, Cummerbundh, Jodhpurs, Pajamas, Uma, Maya, Nirvana

I AM GOING TO SAY THEY WERE ALL CHANGED A TINY BIT FROM THE IMPERIALIST (BRITAIN OR UK) WHILE IN INDIA AND THEY WERE THEN ADOPTED INTO THE ENGLISH LANGUAGE. THEY ARE ALL FROM INDIAN LANGUAGES I BET.

Who invented Chess and tgo Snakes and Ladders?

YEAH, BEFORE THE 6TH CENTURY BC IN INDIA. NEXT UP WAS PERSIA AND THEN OUTWARDS, EH?

Where did Yoga originate?

YOGI-YOGA WAS A TYPE OF MEDITATION. GANDHI USED THE YOGA PART IN MANY OF HIS EXPERIMENTS.

Where did the Decimal count originate?

HINDUS AROUND 200 BC

What was the world’s largest nbr used in the past?

What is the world’s largest number used today?

Where did the concept of and words ‘Navigation’ and ‘Navy’ come from?

Which two Asian nations chose to remain NonAligned during the Cold War regime and founded a third coalition for developing countries?

For every American nuclear power-reactor, how many does India and S/Korea have (roughly)?

PERHAPS 2? I AM NOT SURE BUT I AM GOING TO CHECK NOW.

Where in the film Ten Commandments do you see Nephertiti receiving a gift from India? What was it?

I HAVE NO IDEA BUT I CAN HOPE IT WAS KNOWLEDGE

OK THAT WAS FUN... HAVE A GOOD DAY.. :-)
I missed a couple on there sorry, darn but got to run off to my day.
I believe the first is latin
The second may be from sanskrit or hindi
Third; probably originated in India
The fourth is a guy who used to catch for the NY Yankees
The fifth was invented by a guy named Dewey in a library
The fifth and sixth can be found on your tax bill
The seventh is again from the sanskrit

Are we playing ten little indians here?

Were the words poo and bah invented by someone from India who didn't like something as in, "Oh, poo!! Oh, bah!!"

I hope you realize that I am not attempting to curry any favor here so, I'll take my hindi end and leave.

OK, smartyjodhpurs, who invented puns.
Thanks for the answers to these interesting questions. Lithuanian is the oldest language in Europe and closely resembles Sanskrit with a lot of similar words. I think we are cousins!
Actually, Sanskrit and European languages share a common ancestor, Proto-Indo-European, namely, the language of the ancient Aryan tribes in the Caucasus Mountains.

Sanskrit and European tongues, thus, are cousins. European languages did not "develop" from sanskrit. This is all Hindu Nationalist nonsense.

They share a common ancestor, but diverged many thousands of years ago.
@ RW, proto in our llinguistic parlance mean, unattested, undocemented source language. Indo- Indian. European is a group of languages derived from the main source language, like Irish, Gaelic, etc not applicable in this context.

Of the KNOWN, documented, languages that have a Grammar book existing, Sanskrit is the oldest one, Panini being the world's first grammarian. So, source of English still is considered to be Sanskrit. But EHL is going further back and trying to identify what existed before Sanskrit came into being. That would be 40,000 years back - they are saying there might be Borean, Papuan and San languages that could be the three basic sources. No PROOF yet, no DOCUMENTED evidence yet.

So, for your school going kid, writing a paper for me, the expected ans would be "Sanskrit" in answer to that question or we examiners would not be able to pass them, am sorry.
@ Bonnie , I don't think you know what Elijah is laughing about. The reason is this: when Elijah had read the post, this had been a QUIZ. Later after Victoria wrote in her answers, I edited the post and put in the answers. Elijah never saw the answers :)
So why are you still laughing? I ask bec someone here said you are a journalist - am curious to know what made you laugh: the facts or the post?

@ RW, I forgot to mention this last time I answered you, see the VEDAS, esply the RIG VEDA is the world's oldest written text, right? and it was written in Sanskrit, and various people date that book between 6500 to 1500 BC. Now the text is in poetic verses. So obviously the spoken language had evolved to that level before the text was composed? So that makes it a very ancient language?
Thats number 1 for you.

Point number 2: Now the Norman or the Viking conquest happened if I remember stuff from my phililogy classes correctly about 800-1050 After Christ died, right? So do you see the time difference there? Only after the Norman conquest was there some kind of a nation in England. It became more of a nation even later when the Romans came in and civilized them. And Romans brought in more of Sanskrit material with them which they got from the Arabs who got it from India. But you dont have to muddle over all that.

Just the date of composition of the Rig Veda and the Norman conquest should suffice to establish Sanskrit is the mother because mom came FIRST. There were four great civilizations inter changing stuff between them and knowledge, if you are familiar with your Old Testament or have watched the movie Ten Commandments, The Babylonians, The Mayans, the Chinese, Egyptians and the Indus Valley or the Indian Civilization.

So those people's languages would be the oldest and source for the rest. Unless you want to go further back. Then you become descended from Africans and your language sourced from 40, 000 year old Borean or San :)

Either way - your culture, language etc is indebted to people you insult and look down upon and language is a very political thing now - the most IMPORTANT resource for any Nation and the one domain (besides Stem Cell, Genetics, Cryogenics, Drugs, Space Science, Fluid viscocity etc) to be a billion dollar research field :) your Army is involved in extensive research already, dont you know? :) I live in India, am just an ordinary poor woman in a third world country, not half as educated as you are with half the access you have to resources but even I do ;) and my students :)
I had initially thought Victoria Wolf was genuinely interested in India and that she was preparing for an exam, as a teacher myself I did not want her to fail and so wrote this to help an aspiring student as is the duty of any teacher anywhere in the world.
The post was meant to help Victoria Wolf get some insight into the TEN major aspects according to me that shaped Indian politics, culture and social systems. Since she has already read the post, and commented, am closing comments as some people with zero academic training in Language or Linguistics or Philology or even the History of the Indian people are using it to bluster here and forward their half digested, ill-informed, racist views here.

Also, I had to earn my Masters with hard work and am not here to educate the American rich and idle for free. Thank you.
