How I Knew

Rate: 9 Flag

How I finally was convinced this is the new age I am in?

I bumped into my bro on FB.

Yeah, I haven't seen this little brother in six years.

Then I stumble upon him on FB, discover he has turned into an awesome photgrapher, has a son, and has grown up.

This is the kid brother I used to carry in my arms and run for the school bus. I used to carry him because that way it was faster - otherwise, on his two centimeter legs it would have taken all day. And I would miss my window seat. At least that is the way I used to think when I was little and he was tiny.

I stumble upon my kid brohter and learn thru FB that hehas converted to Christianity. I knew he had married a Christian woman, and that they were raising their kid to learn about both the religions, but hadnt known he had actually converted.

I dont know how to feel.

In a dream I lived through the times when we were young and we belonged to the same house and we called each oither didi and bhai. I actually had a dream the day  before, I saw him in my dream.

Today FB said Anupam and Nabina are now friends and it kind of made me cry and I wrote down a comment there "we are actually siblings that ran into each other on the ether".

How lives change. How we drift apart even from those that are meant to be a part of our lves forever.

Has something like this happened to anyone on OS?

Here is one picture of Kolkata city I am especially proud of - he did a whole series and posted it on FB, if any of my friends like this photo, please go to FB, and see his other photos and leave an encouraging word if you please, am sure that the photographer would like toknow how he has done, and he has captured Kolkata beautifully I think.  [http://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.1946667166048.77336.1823614588&type=3]

Well, then FB has justified and paid for itself, right then.

Great story, Nabina.
A truly amazing story. The internet can be such a powerful force for good.
What a sad and sweet sound that rings through this...I'm glad you re-found your brother in the ether, sorry you had drifted apart so far...
The photo is captivating, and I remember climbing up tires to get back on the dock when swimming as a child : )
Yes, I do relate to this distance with siblings. When our mother died, the slow drift began, and as I don't do FB I have no idea what my siblings are up to, until someone picks up the phone. Then we'll chat.
Something is just wrong when one is corralled into a website community just to learn what is new with family.
Simply, a wonderful story. Well done. R
Ash, yeah I guess lol - at least now I am not anti-FB anymore.
Ardee, thanks.
Jeanette - yes I completely agree with that - the internet is one good thing that has happened to us, and perhaps is the only true uniting factor that did bring people together, rendered our world borderless
Just Thinking - I used to think that is just a Western phenomenon bec life is so fast there, I was surprised and shocked that it happened to me in India! :) Guess times are catching up here too :) and yes it is scary and disturbing.
Thoth I feel so happy that you read my story and liked it too - I miss your stories :)
thanks to those that rated silently -
Can you post your blog to your facebook for your brother to see? Lovely piece.
Laura, much as I wd love to, I wdnt bec am scared, my bro is one of the most reserved scorpions I know, tht might actually make him crawl back into his shell again and it wd be another hundred years then, to get him to talk :) People in this family keep their deepest feelings to themselves, we dont share. Thank you for adding me to your reading list.
