Vipassana

Rate: 4 Flag

Coming out of a ten day long Vipassana meditation camp, life feels slightly different.

Running inside the head are the vows of shila, samadhi, pragya, the struggle is to maintain "anichhya" (equanimity towards sensations good or bad) at all times.

Vipassana is the oldest known, the most purest form of meditation technique taught by Gautama Budhha, preserved in its pristine pure form in Myanmar, among a small sect, until  it returned to the land of its origin with Mr S. N Goenka, in 1969 when he decided to relocate to India from Myanmar, and begin the practice, teaching and research of it, here.

Gosh, gal, I was afraid you were dead! But no, thank heavens, you ain’t..
Whatcha up to , there? Vipassanā (Pāli)

insight into the true nature of reality
one of the world's most ancient techniques of meditation,
which was re-discovered
] by Gautama Buddha

a practice of self-transformation through self-observation and introspection to the extent that sitting with a steadfast mind becomes an active experience of change and impermanence..

sounds yummy.

Yeah, change. It is all around us. It is in us. It IS US.
Impermanence is the most difficult thing to get yer head around, but once you do, it is a marvelous freedom…

For what is freedom? It is the ability NOT TO CLING. To anything.

Nothing defines us. We brazenly emerge at every moment. We are new in every drop of existence.

We yearn for knowledge , for we are jnana types..

That knowledge which adds greatness to character is knowledge so handled as to transform every phase of immediate experience.

To go is to return. Welcome back.
Yippie!!! You are back!!!! I was getting worried :)
Good to see you're posting again.
I have found that it is unthinkable for many people to simply be alone with themselves, to cease being an incessant actor who must fill every spare moment with talk and action, and simply observe. They are impatient with silence and inaction because their mind and their feelings are either reliving what has already been or worrying about what might be. They cannot even comprehend meditation, much less practice it.

Thanks for the intro to Vipassana video. I have not encountered it before, but what I heard is very familiar. By learning how to simply observe your body's activity, it becomes possible to notice how your body reacts to what is in your life, which is a purer vision of self than the stories your mind makes up about what's happening and how you react to it. This ability to step out of the immediacy of a situation and observe it also reveals the interactions that are happening between and among people, and the patterns that are formed as the effects ripple back and forth among the participants.

I like to sit quietly and observe the world. There is an odd state of mind that I reach, in which the image simplifies into a play of light and shadow, the details disappear, and the pattern of whatever is at the center of my sight -- a clump of leaves, some pebbles perhaps -- spreads out to fill far more of the world I see than it otherwise would, as if that bit was the true essence of reality. Suddenly, an entire hillside is covered with the small bit of scrub I was looking at, or all of the trees, in all their variety, are suddenly covered with cherry blossoms. The experience reminds me that the world is mutable, and nothing is truly what it seems.

I trust that your experience was as enlightening as you needed it to be, and that you have a better feeling for what your life (or lives) has been, what it is now, and what it can be.
