I have to say, I have listened to, over the past few days, people who felt they needed to take pot shots when a celebrity, in this case, Whitney Houston died and I have asked myself why people feel the need to disrespect someone at the point when they literally can no longer speak for themselves. I'm sure there are as many reasons to kick a person as there are stars in the sky. Some did it because they were jealous of the fame and money, some did it out of resentment due to her race (there are tons of these in the Fox News comments sections) and some think that by making these judgments they are showing that they are somehow superior.
This week a human being with talents and promise and love and with personal demons died much too soon for the people who knew and loved her. A mother lost her daughter, a daughter lost her mother, people, who's lives she had touched, mourned her. It happens every day and every day it's just as painful. One difference was that for most, they are private citizens not public figures.
But what else is different is that there are people who have felt the need to publicly announce that, because of their own desperate need for attention that they made the decision to disrespect the dead and disrespect those in mourning in the hopes that this desecration will make them appear superior.
These people, whether they know it or not, they have joined the ranks of the Westboro Baptist Church.
