Some of you know that I went to see Rob Thomas on Sunday night. It was such a fabulously amusing evening that I had to try and convey some of it here.
I received an email a few days before the event, telling patrons that due to the amount of rain we've had recently, parking for the concert would be provided 20 minutes away from the vineyard where the show was to be held, but there would be shuttle buses taking us back and forward.
I was running a little late as I left home, but knew I'd make it up on the freeway during the hour plus drive to the concert. I get to the car park only to find that it's full, but the oh-so-helpful dude standing guard tells me to drive to Mittagong train station and park there, where a bus will pick me up to take me to the vineyard. He apologises for not being able to give me directions...yeah, thanks mate.
I eventually find my way thanks to a young girl working at McDonalds, where I blow my healthy eating plan by ordering a Big Mac meal at the drive thru. Driving makes me hungry. I eat the burger in record time, so it sat nice and comfortable in what felt like my throat for the next half an hour or so.
The bus waits for a few more people before we set off for the vineyard. Upon our arrival, I see that we may have a problem. There is no grass, but the vast amount of thick, brown mud surely makes up for it. I slosh my way up a giant hill, hand my ticket over along with my bag for searching, then slosh my way down another.
I have a front row ticket baby. As I'm navigating my way through what is now ankle deep mud, I take a look at my fellow concert-goers. I see people who have obviously taken falls, with their mud-caked backs and faces. I hear roars from the crowd as someone else takes a spill. One old man falls, the crowd roars (good naturedly) and after some brave soul ventures over to help him up, he slips again. Another roar follows.
As this is a vineyard, the wine is flowing freely. Nobody has cups, I notice while I'm walking. They're all swigging from bottles. I have limited myself to one glass of wine because I'm driving, but am happy that nobody else seems to be.
I take my seat, which I immediately come up with a name for - 'A River Runs Through You" or Arty for short. Random, you say? Not so much... This is the view of between my legs...heh... after I was seated.
That's not my foot. Mine are on either side of the river. After assuring myself I was in no immediate danger of drowning, I settled in to enjoy the music. The support act, Vanessa Amorosi has one of the best voices I've ever heard. Her range is superb and she kicked ass.
After she was done, I took myself off in search of alcohol. I ordered my wine and drank it at the bar because I need both hands to balance myself. It was of the utmost importance for me to make it back to my seat without inciting a roar from the crowd.
Rob Thomas finally made his appearance and I have to say...wow.

I don't want to brag, but I'd like to also share a pic of Rob serenading...or should I say begging me. Oh rob, if only I knew what you wanted I'd have served it up to you on a platter.
As well as being Valentine's day, it was also Rob's birthday. His wife came out with a cake- pffft - and they looked so in love it was almost sickening.
The cake was in the shape of Australia. Rob ate Tasmania, then went on to sing the rest of the best concert I've been to in recent memory. Thanks for a fabulous night, Mr Thomas!

KD, I hope next year is better for you.
Spud, the trouble next door actually came after the concert. I just blogged them in the wrong chronological order :P

Janie, did you see how grotesque she is? But yes, she ruined my moment. I'm sure he was just about to drag me on stage, lay me back on that piano and...but she just had to destroy it all with her joy and obvious love for her husband.
You LUCKY dog getting to sit front row in front of Rob.....
Good night, fair lady!

He is an inspiration to rockstar robbies everywhere.
I'm happy you had a good time, and yes, I kind of resent good looking men. We should all be so lucky.
