The Rack

Rate: 10 Flag

This happened.

Toaster Oven.  Customer Service.

[customer] I need a new rack for the toaster oven.  The old one is rusting.

[rep] You mean a pan?

[customer] I mean the rack.  the thing you put the toast on.

[rep] People put toast on the pan.

[customer] You put it ON THE RACK.  To toast both sides.

 [rep] Really?

[rep]  People are always calling up and saying it only toasts on one side.

[rep] I tell them to turn it over.

[rep] The rack.  Hmmm. I never knew.

Toast can be a seriously good food. You have to start with good bread. Plus the best imported unsalted butter. Or just regular stuff will do. Toast can be that good. I consider it the ultimate comfort food.
Toast is one of my favorite things . . . great snack or part of a meal . . . the rack, huh?
oh god, i LOVE toast. it is seriously good. you captured the essence of shopping these days, well, of customer service any way. love love love and gratitude
OMG, Nick--please tell me this is fiction?!?!?
How can they NOT know about the RACK???
"People put toast on the pan"
Lemme guess...they also boil eggs in a skillet?
;-)
Gee, that sounds familiar. But you're lucky you got to speak to a human.
The story is absolutely true. This is an abridged version, a recording of the real conversation would have been priceless.

The combination of people calling up to ask why their toast was only brown on one side ---

Followed by a customer service rep saying to just turn it over.

You couldn't make this stuff up.

Remember.

The average IQ is 100 by definition, no? Or roughly.

There are a lot of bright people on OS. We all know a lot of bright people.

BUT.....There has to be their partner on the other side of that bell curve. This was them.

And....

Thank you for commenting.

Owl.... the rack? ancient torture device? not sure I want to fully explore it.

Nutella? A good reason to never visit Europe.

Spotted Mind ... Unfortunately, it is totally true.

John.... Yea, real rep. Just not real bright.
That's what I like about those kind of stores. They hire people who don't have a clue about what they are selling.
Yummm, toast.
"The rack. Hmmm. I never knew." Amazing the things one can learn just by paying attention....
