Repost -- Terra Naomi

Rate: 2 Flag
Jacob Freeze  introduced me to Terra -- and has just done a post on her.

Following Jacob's recommendation, I wrote this a year or so ago.

Her 'Vicodin Song' was the inspiration of my fictional post, Please Come

Note:  You can read the text, as Terra Naomi's story is interesting.  I think it is the way we will have future stars -- they will simply rise from Youtube like children birthed by wolves.  That and the must misses that are birthed on Idol.  Or you can catch the singing.  I have three versions of her doing Vicodin, since the later two are better illustrations of her voice, occurring in larger venues.  And the covers.  Compare and contrast and an interesting phenomenon.  Something for everyone:

From Wikipedia:
Terra Naomi is an Alternativerock, and pop artist, who rose to fame through a performance of her song "Say It's Possible" on the video sharing site YouTube. Originally from New York State, but currently based in Los Angeles, she writes and performs her own songs, and plays the guitar and piano

Naomi studied classical piano and voice, attending Interlochen Performing Arts Camp in Michigan and Belvoir Terrace Fine & Performing Arts Camp for girls in LenoxMassachusetts. Teachers convinced her to pursue a degree in opera from The University of Michigan. During this time, Naomi also participated in the Aspen Opera Theater Program.

You can drive you can drive you can drive
down the 405
to the 101 to my house
and these highways are in so many songs
I couldn't count them all
I tried
so much sad history described in a ride
and when I told you I was happy I lied
I lied I lied I lied...

and I've got vicodin do you wanna come over
I know it's a long drive from malibu
I got a pocket full of pills and not one lover
and I'm feeling so bad and so good
I don't know what to do...

and I'll take my chances now
cause I can't go back I'm out too far
and I'm thinking I'm thinking
I'm thinking that you know how it feels
so get in your car and drive
and I can tell you that I'll try
I'll try I'll try I'll try

and I've got vicodin do you wanna come over
I know it's a long drive from malibu
I got a pocket full of pills and not one lover
and I'm feeling so bad and so good
I don't know what to do...

it's in your face
I know that place you're going to
I'll follow you
I'll meet you there
don't bring a thing for me
I'll take care I'll take care

and I've got vicodin do you wanna come over
I know it's a long drive from malibu
I got a pocket full of pills and not one lover
and I'm feeling so bad and so good
I don't know what to do...

damn, nick. i wish you'd referenced the Vicodin Song and naomi on that "Please Come" post. i just read that (and my inane comment about autoplay and wtf else) and then went over to freeze's original post and then youtube to play some *more* of this woman's stuff. amazing, just amazing. i'm hooked for real.

and now i have to say that your Please Come post was brilliant. somehow i think i must have meant to come back and say something else - because it was brilliant then, too, not just because now i know who the singer is and what the incredible song says. wow. what a happy 20 minutes i just spent. thanks.
Okay, that's a lot more than I ever knew about terranaomi, and also a couple of videos that I never saw, including that astounding duet!

How often do you hear a duet with dead-on down to 1 hz matching pitch. Yowza! Maybe not every second of it is quite so absolute, but there's a heck of lot of it beyond all reasonable standards, even at the Metropolitan Opera or anywhere I ever heard virtuosos sing together.

Thanks, Nick! This post was a real gift for me.
